2015 Domaine de Chevalier

By Chateau Domaine de Chevalier

2015 Domaine de Chevalier from Chateau Domaine de Chevalier, Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux

I have long followed the trajectory of Chateau Domaine de Chevalier, nestled in the verdant crus of Pessac-Léognan. Their wares are a testament to the prowess of Bordeaux's lesser-known terroirs. Yet, it is the 2015 vintage that distinguishes itself as a stellar beacon, an exemplification of enological mastery meeting Mother Nature's magnanimity.

A Vintage Defined by Elegance and Balance

The 2015 vintage was marked by an expeditious start with a mild winter and spring. However, it was the dry, sunny summer dovetailing with finely-tuned fluctuations in climate which threaded the needle—fortifying tannins, concentrating fruits, and endowing an exceptional vigour to the vines. The 2015 Domaine de Chevalier encapsulates this climatic ballet with a core of sumptuous dark fruit enveloped in a mantle of refined oak—a silhouette cut for long-term investment.

Investment Merits of the Vintage

The 2015 Domaine de Chevalier emerges as an archetype for collectors and investors, its structure whispering longevity whilst choreographing layers of complexity. Swathes of blackcurrant and seductive cherry notes pirouette with understated tobacco and graphite nuances. The depth here—apparent even at this relative youth—is one to savour; each sip unveils a further stratagem of flavours.

This wine stands as a compelling paragon for those seeking to embellish their portfolios with a red of impeccable pedigree. The 2015 vintage from Chateau Domaine de Chevalier is reaching an optimal inflection point where composure meets ascendancy—an asset worth watching for aficionados and connoisseurs alike.

In summary, my reflective analysis surmises that 2015 Domaine de Chevalier is not merely a wine but a treasure of vinous architecture; one to be acquired, aged and appreciated as it unfolds gracefully over time. This narrative is one for those besotted by harmony – where vineyard composition meets visionary craft under the auspices of an extraordinary Bordeaux year. Invest with conviction.

This shows class and finesse with ultra-fine tannins and succulent fruit. Full body yet elegant and long. Gorgeous wine. Such length. Vibrant and focused.

The 2015 Domaine de Chevalier is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot picked from 23 September until 15 October at just 35 hl/ha, matured in 35% new oak. It has a sophisticated bouquet that is more reserved than its peers. It possesses one of the most precise, detailed aromatic profiles that I have encountered from this estate, wonderfully poised with black fruit, incense and cold stone. It has wonderful focus and class. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannin, very complex with lightly peppered black fruit. What marks this Domaine de Chevalier is the reserve and precision on the finish, a wine that is holding something back for its secondary evolution, a salinity that beckons you back for another sip. What a fabulous, intellectual wine from Olivier Bernard. Expect four decades of drinking pleasure - probably more - given my experience of ancient vintages. Tasted three times with consistent notes.

Offers an open, easy feel. The creamy structure lets juicy plum and raspberry notes flow along and linger on the finish. Almost languid in character, and very suave.—J.M.

Year in year out, this is one of the best dry whites in Bordeaux. Focused and precise, it’s spicy, dense and rich on the palate, with a thread of grapefruity acidity, stylish toasty oak and a creamy texture. There’s a sense of something in reserve here. Drink: 2017-25

Great tension and subtlety. Extremely savoury - almost salty - with freshness and ripeness. Not one of the deepest colours. Lovely appetising low-key classicism. Bravissimo à tous!
