2003 La Mondotte
By Chateau La Mondotte
2003 La Mondotte from Chateau La Mondotte, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux
The 2003 vintage in Bordeaux shall forever be etched in memory as a year of meteorological extremes; a sweltering summer ensued by frighteningly arid conditions which teased the very limits of viticulture. In this challenging milieu, 2003 La Mondotte from Chateau La Mondotte articulates the tale of resilience and mastery over the elements.
A Vintage Tale of Triumph
The year's oppressive heat notably accelerated ripeness, coercing vintners into a delicate ballet of precision and intuition. At Chateau La Mondotte, fortitude and an intimate understanding of their terroir led to a remarkable harvest. The result is a wine with opulent concentration and thoroughbred power, featuring lusciously ripe tannins which defy the vintage's ambient stressors.
An Accord of Elegance and Exuberance
This 2003 incarnate sings with an orchestration of dark fruits; blackcurrants and plums pirouette amidst a spicy box of cedar, tobacco, and a touch of graphite. With age, it has unfurled into layers of complexity, showcasing a resplendent structure elegantly cloaked in creaminess that only the finest Saint-Émilion can exhibit.
The palate resonates with intensity, yet never loses its majestic composure. Herein lies the investment-worthy narrative – a story where the wine not only endured but thrived under nature's trial. Drinking now, it demonstrates the sagacity behind patient cellaring, with developing nuances year after year that reward astute collectors.
The Investment Worthy Epitome from Saint-Émilion
In an era where fine wine investors seek both pedigree and provocation, 2003 La Mondotte is emblematic of a laudable triumph over adversity. It is a benchmark for any effervescent market portfolio desiring to capture an extraordinary chapter from Bordeaux's tapestry. While the 2003 vintage could have faltered under extreme conditions, here we hail an iteration that transcends mere survival; it delivers a resonant crescendo of Saint-Émilion's grandeur.

A killer wine (I’m so sorry I didn’t buy any), the 2003 La Mondotte is clearly one of the superstars of the vintage. An intriguing perfume of licorice, Asian soy, black currant jam, ripe cherries and subtle toast emerges from this extravagantly rich, voluptuously textured, opulent, full-bodied St.-Emilion. Just coming in to full maturity, it is pure, rich and full. Drink it over the next decade or more.
