1995 Nuits St Georges Aux Lavieres from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair

Embarking upon a tasting journey back to the considerably impressive 1995 vintage in Burgundy, it becomes evident how favourable conditions can bestow upon us a wine of stupendous intricacy and longevity. The 1995 Nuits St Georges Aux Lavieres from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a veritable testament to this statement, revealing to us the opulence of time melded with the land's noble pedigree.

A Remarkable Harvest, A Resolute Vintage

The year 1995 stood out as one of commitment and character for Burgundy winemakers, marked by an auspicious start and a challenging yet rewarding finish to the season. This particular harvest has given us wines that embrace robustness with elegance, a trait exquisitely encompassed in the Nuits St Georges Aux Lavieres from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair.

Upon inspection, one notes its now brick-hued rim, pulling one into a narrative that speaks volumes of its maturity. There’s a resurgence of matured red fruits intertwined with secondary nuances of leather, tobacco, and forest floor—characteristics venerable in aged Pinot Noir. It is its structure, however, that belies its years: Tannins are graciously integrated yet assertive, suggesting not just a remarkable past but also an enduring future.

Investing in Terroir-Driven Timelessness

Wine investing necessitates focus on wines that not only stand out due to their provenance but also those that can transcend time. This wine does precisely that. Its stunning evolution reflects the majesty of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's winemaking prowess and amplifies the significance of this specific Burgundy terroir evident in each sip of the 1995 Nuits St Georges Aux Lavieres.

Connoisseurs and investors alike understand that certain vintages present once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to experience a unique narrative; this wine is undeniably one such narrative. Its lingering finish and continued development ensure that every bottle holds not just a glass but an ongoing story—a story deeply rooted in the heritage of Burgundy's most cherished domains.

In essence, investing in the 1995 Nuits St Georges Aux Lavieres from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is akin to curating an heirloom for one’s cellar—a tangible piece of history from one of Burgundy's finest vintages, promising further unraveling of complexities with each passing year.

Having retasted DRC's 1997 Montrachet in March, 2000, it was apparent that my earlier assessment was both conservative in judgement and anticipated maturity dates. It reveals a straw/goldish color and loads of tropical fruit, mineral, anise, and buttered aromas. This massive, medium-to-full-bodied, and dense wine displays layers of spice, creamy super-ripe pears, creme brulee, and hints of butterscotch in its opulent flavor profile. Velvety-textured and broad, it is forward yet better balanced than originally perceived. Drink it between 2002 and 2012. Importer: Wilson-Daniels, St. Helena, CA; tel (707) 963-9661.
