In the rarefied echelons of fine wines, the reputation of Burgundy's quintessential varietal whispers through the annals of viticulture, often resting its head upon one regal throne: the 1995 Romanée-Conti from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. My personal account with this esteemed label stretches across decades, but it is the '95 vintage that compellingly stands out as a crowning achievement of viniculture science married to nature's serendipity.
An Oenophile's Treasure Cast in Nature's Crucible
The year 1995 was particularly benevolent to Burgundy, bestowing a set of conditions that allowed for nuanced maturation of grape clusters. The cool nights and warm days envisioned a finely balanced act and lent this vintage a depth which is narrated through each sensory encounter.
When caressing the glass, one is greeted by a poised amalgam of earthiness and an ethereal perfume of redcurrants and black cherries—a suitor's bouquet. On sipping, the palimpsest of flavours unfolds with gentle precision: underbrush, ripe strawberries, and whispers of clove encompass the gustatory production.
A Vintage Crafted for the Haute Collecteur
Wine investment aficionados recognise that while certain vintages resonate with the promise of immediacy, others like the 1995 Romanée-Conti form Domaine de la Romanée-Conti beguile with complexities that emerge magnificently over time. And so has this '95 matured into an opulent treasure. Its structural integrity and aristocratic poise affirm it as a sagacious addition to any premium collection.
Libation and Longevity: An Exemplary Fusion
The narrative encounter offered by this exceptional Pinot Noir interprets more than mere consumption; it is an ode to the enduring dance between nature’s temporality and human craftsmanship. The longevity scripted into this vintage allows investors to debate not merely financial appreciation but also personal enrichment—a double helix of cultural legacy intertwined with value appreciaton.

This wine is mind-boggling and has gathered even more body, power, and density than it displayed from barrel. It is complex with distinctive flavors of morel and porcini mushrooms intermingled with cassis and black cherries. It appears to be holding an enormous amount in reserve, and may ultimately merit higher ratings. It should be held at least ten years, and will easily last through 2020 given proper cellar conditions. Bravo! Importer: Wilson-Daniels, St. Helena, CA; tel. (707) 963-9661.
