2013 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair
Nestled within the revered precincts of Burgundy, the 2013 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau stands as a testament to the finesse that can be achieved even in the more challenging vintages. The 2013 growing season was punctuated by erratic weather, yet by keen adaptation and meticulous vineyard management, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has birthed a wine of striking complexity and balance.
Finessed Expression from a Capricious Climate
The struggle of the vines under climatic duress often coaxes out a singular elegance in Burgundy Pinot Noir, and this holds true for this particular offering from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair. The cooler temperatures and uneven ripening period have yielded a vintage that showcases restraint and layered subtlety. Notably less opulent than its predecessors, it is a graceful articulation of Vosne-Romanee's cherished terroir.
A Vintage Defined by Poise and Potential
Certain investment-grade wines manage to encapsulate both the poetry of their provenance and their potential for cellar transformation. The 2013 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau articulates this duality sublime. In its current state, it offers an aromatic portfolio replete with dark cherry and violets which deftly intertwine with refined tannins and an enduring finish that hints at its latent depth.
Admirably suited to medium-term ageing, there is poised potential for investors seeking to enrich their portfolio with a wine that will mature gracefully, unfurling new complexities with time. With its already remarkable composure and capacity for evolution, Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair has once again demonstrated their ability to triumph over the whims of nature, securing the 2013 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau as one of the astute picks from an otherwise whimsical vintage.
The Sophisticate's Selection
As your trusted compass in the expansive world of fine wine investing, I counsel consideration of the 2013 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau for its demonstrated capacity to offer a generous return in sensory delight and investment value alike. Let this particular vintage serve as a wise addition to any discerning collection, appreciated for its poise amid adversity and promise of blossoming magnificence.

The 2013 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair was a little disappointing. The wine is very attractive on the nose, offering up a pretty bouquet of raw cocoa, rose petal, cinnamon, orange rind and red berries, but the palate impression, while nicely balanced, is rather light and ephemeral, its finish decidedly evanescent. Shortly after release, this wine was deliciously dramatic, but as its framing of new oak has faded, it has begun to seem a little pedestrian.
