2015 Vosne Romanee la Colombiere from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair
The 2015 vintage in Burgundy holds a particular place in the annals of viniculture, and the 2015 Vosne Romanee la Colombiere from the storied Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a true testament to the year's exceptional conditions. In my years of critique, few vintages manage to articulate the symphony of Burgundy's terroir as richly as this one has.
The Quintessential Burgundian Vintage
Poised on the upper echelons of fine wine investment, the 2015 vintage is renowned for its near-perfect climatic conditions – an amalgamation of warm sunshine and well-timed rainfall resulted in remarkably healthy vines bearing fruit of optimal ripeness. The 2015 Vosne Romanee la Colombiere eloquently expresses this climatic bounty with an astute balance between richness and refinement.
The Patina of Terroir and Time
This vintage tantalises the palate with an intricate mélange of ripe red cherries and cassis, nuanced by subtle earthy undertones reminiscent of Vosne-Romanée’s classic profile. The tactile expression — silken, yet profound — owes its texture to the tender care afforded by Louis-Michel Liger-Belair. A generous bouquet betrays hints of spice and floral notes that evoke images of the well-drained limestone and marl soils which these illustrious vines call home.
Upon release, wine connoisseurs immediately recognised the potential for this vintage to evolve magnificently, and as such, it has materialised into an investable gem within one's cellar collection. In terms of longevity, one might anticipate this 2015 offering to proceed elegantly through its maturity over the next two decades.
In sum, we find ourselves admiring a bottling that radiates elegance and speaks fervently of its birthplace. It is undeniably a star among Burgundy reds, and for collectors as well as investors looking to bolster their portfolio with a highlight from 2015, this Vosne Romanee la Colombiere from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair emerges as a luminary holding promise for both immediate enjoyment and patient cellaring.

The 2015 Vosne-Romanée La Colombière was showing just a slight reduction on the nose, but tucked underneath lie attractive mulberry and raspberry preserve aromas. The palate has a savory note on the entry, a crisp line of acidity, nicely structured with veins of blood orange and orange rind that enhance the finish. It does not possess the length of the premier crus, yet it represents a very capable village cru.
