By Domaine Dujac
2015 Romanee St Vivant from Domaine Dujac, Burgundy, France
In the world of Burgundy, where the venerated and the vintage-specific coalesce, few wines evoke the opulence of terroir as profoundly as the 2015 Romanee St Vivant from Domaine Dujac. This illustrious cultivation represents a symbiotic ensemble of climatic favour and winemaking genius that was encapsulated in the hallowed year of 2015.
Artistry in a Bottle: The Vintage of a Decade
The 2015 vintage in Burgundy was more than benevolent; it was positively historic - a growing season that provided both challenge and triumph, much like a finely plotted novel reaching its denouement. Such is the narrative for the 2015 Romanee St Vivant. With a modest yield due to selective harvesting, each cluster of grapes tells a tale of meticulous care and dedication to expressing the nuances of this extraordinary plot.
A Year Unlike Any Other
The year’s warmth was a bounty to the ripening grapes, imprinting upon them an intensity rarely matched in preceding years. In tasting this wine, one revels in a palate adorned with ripe cherries, mulberries, and a touch of exotic spice, testament to that radiant summer sun. Yet it is not gauche nor overbearing; there exists an eminent structure and poise—a tense balance between power and finesse—that delivers a length and complexity on the finish which whispers of its storied origin.
Velvet tannins dance alongside an acidity that remains lively and bright, ensuring that this wine is not only mesmerising in its youth but also promises an extensive horizon for investors who anticipate marvels as it matures.
An Investment in Elegance
For connoisseurs seeking investment potential, the 2015 Romanee St Vivant from Domaine Dujac is one to be ensconced within any serious portfolio. Its scarcity coupled with its celstial craftsmanship ensures it will be sought after for years to come. The consummate balance achieved in this vintage proclaims its worthiness as not just a treasure of Burgundy but also an emblem of refined viniculture. This is an investment in history, pleasure, and prestige.

The 2015 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru has a very complex bouquet with redcurrant, crushed strawberry and pomegranate with subtle undergrowth scents and wilted roses in your aunt's antique vase. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very energetic and lively with a crisp line of acidity. This is beautifully poised, the 100% new oak almost completely subsumed with a slight savory note towards the finish. It actually reminds me of the stupendous 2012 when I tasted that in barrel (which tasted brilliantly more recently, incidentally). Fabulous and sensual, this has a long and prosperous future ahead.
