The 2001 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques from Jean-Marie Fourrier is lovely, wafting from the glass with aromas of wild berries, crushed cassis, dried flowers and sweet underbrush. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and bright, with a deep, layered mid-palate, framed by velvety tannins and succulent acids and a compelling sense of purity and equilibrium. The finish is tangy and subtly chalky. This is a superb Clos Saint-Jacques that's drinking beautifully now.
