The 2009 Charmes-Chambertin is pure velvet and silk. Layers of beautifully delineated, nuanced fruit flow effortlessly from the glass. The vintage has given the Charmes a bit more amplitude than is often the case. Rose petals and violets bring everything back to a typical if a bit generous expression of Charmes. The 2009 is very young but has all of the ingredients to develop beautifully in bottle. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. It is a fascinating to revisit Christophe Roumier’s 2009s from bottle. The lower-end wines are marked by the year to a significantly greater extent than the top wines. Importer: Diageo Chateau and Estate Wines Company, New York, NY; tel. (212) 419-1400
