The revered terroirs of Burgundy have offered up a cornucopia of vintages over the decades, but the 2014 Charmes Chambertin from Domaine Georges Roumier holds a particular allure for investors and oenophiles alike. As one navigates through the intricate tapestry of Burgundy's vintages, this year stands out as a beacon of harmonious expressions and well-judged balance.
The Harmony of 2014: A Study in Elegance
One recognises the signature finesse of Domaine Georges Roumier in each glass, but the whispers of 2014 speak of a compelling contrast, a juxtaposition between ebullient fruit and the sturdy backbone of minerality that shapes the wine's structure. This vintage absorbed the blessings of a milder year, safeguarding acidity and offering an exemplary canvas for the nuances of Charmes Chambertin to shine through.
An Investment in Elegance
In light of its potential for evolution, the 2014 Charmes Chambertin presents itself not only as a sensory indulgence but as a prudent addition to any fine wine portfolio. Its grace and ageing potential herald appreciation in both palate and price, a duality that savvy collectors will not overlook.
The poise exhibited by the 2014’s medium-bodied profile is accented by luscious red fruits interlaced with seasoned wood, aniseed, and earthy undertones. The velvety tannins lay the groundwork for a regal ageing process that promises to unfurl further complexities. It is indeed during these years that one may witness the emergence of tertiary aromas, providing layered depth that defines age-worthy Burgundy wine.
In capturing the essence of this distinct vintage, I celebrate the skilled craftsmanship inherent in every bottle from Domaine Georges Roumier. The 2014 Charmes Chambertin is a wine that reflects its lineage with pride; grounded in tradition yet embracing the uniqueness wrought by weather and wine craft. For those discerning buyers aiming to enrich their cellars, it represents a thoughtful investment and an epitome of Burgundy's charm.

The 2014 Charmes Chambertin Grand Cru has a very precise and harmonious bouquet: blackberry and cranberry fruit, cold granite and sea spray. There is enthralling focus here, a quite profound Charmes-Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied with sweet tannin, a bit of new wood to be subsumed, grippy in the mouth with a mineral-driven and tensile finish that is endowed with wonderful symmetry. Give this killer Charmes-Chambertin 4-6 years in bottle.
