A vintage that quite marvellously embodies the narrative of its year, the 2009 Vosne Romanee les Brulees from Domaine Meo-Camuzet is a compelling manifestation of the terroir’s quintessence spliced with the dramatic climatic idiosyncrasies of that growing season. The path of ’09 was marked with spells of unpredictability – a year when warmth converged with timely rains to set forth a dance of elements that coaxed out little-seen facets in this storied plot.
Structural Elegance Converging with Plush Complexity
There is a rare structural elegance in this vintage that converges beautifully with a plush complexity – all hallmarks of meticulous craftsmanship at Domaine Meo-Camuzet. To be in the company of such a wine is to engage in an experience strewn across layers of ripe red fruit, aniseed, and a subtle whisper of sous-bois, heralding the breathtaking maturity of a decade's repose. Not merely content to rest on these laurels, the wine effuses a generosity on the palate that juxtaposes opulence with refinement – thanks no doubt to an exceptional growing season touched by Mother Nature’s benevolent hand.
An Alchemy of Climate and Expertise
Beneath this kaleidoscope of senses lies an alchemy derived from 2009’s capricious climate and the heritage-laden expertise from Domaine Meo-Camuzet. Not every year offers up such generosity; indeed, the mesoclimate for Vosne-Romanee articulated its perfect ripening crescendo in mid-September ‘09, thereby allowing les Brulees to reveal depths and subtleties that would make even the most discerning palates pause in reverence.
This beguiling nectar has reached an exquisite peak, though it confidently possesses the backbone to evolve further. It stands as an exquisite choice for sophisticated fine wine investors seeking to add a jewel to their collection – one that eloquently narrates the story of its origin and outstanding vintage.
As the years continue to enhance its grace, the 2009 Vosne Romanee les Brulees from Domaine Meo-Camuzet remains a beacon of what can emerge from Burgundy's treasured soils; an exemplary testament to brilliance that can, on occasion, be coaxed from nature by humanity’s devoted hands. The 2009 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées from Méo-Camuzet is superb, offering up an alluring nose of sweet black fruit, exotic spices, rich soil and subtle espresso roast. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and expansive, with grand cru depth and dimension, its fine-grained tannins entirely enveloped in luscious dark fruit, its acids cool and controlled. The Aux Brûlées is routinely one of Jean-Nicolas Méo's finest wines, and the 2009 vintage is no exception.
