An Embodiment of Vintage Virtuosity

The millennium brought Pauillac a year of climatic benevolence—an alignment of the elements essential for crafting wines of noteworthy longevity and depth. The 2000 Carruades de Lafite, presenting a tapestry woven from Cabernet Sauvignon's backbone augmented with Merlot's opulence, is a prime illustration of this vintage’s triumph. Pauillac's Precision Etched by Time

Time bestows upon the 2000 Carruades de Lafite the grace of tertiary evolution without foregoing the inherent structure that delineates Pauillac’s character. The bouquet unfurls with cassis and tobacco, embraced by an undeniably bordelaise cedar whisper—a liaison between fruit and earth that epitomizes the year’s serene audacity.

On the palate, it is as though one sips from a chalice of integrated tannins and seasoned oak—balance achieved with a finesse that only a millennium vintage might dare to proffer. A harmonious interplay between ripe blackberry essence and hints of graphite anchors the wine in memory long after the final sip.

In conclusion, gathered around the 2000 Carruades de Lafite from Château Lafite Rothschild is an aura of maturity encircled by an impenetrable firmament of potentiality. This wine not only broadcasts its place among revered vintages but also reinforces its esteemed lineage with a gustatory narrative woven deeply into Pauillac’s terroir. A blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the 2008 exhibits graphite, sandalwood, black and red currant, chocolate and damp earth characteristics in its elegant, medium to full-bodied, fresh, lively personality. It is a delicious, luscious, already evolved wine to drink over the next 15+ years.

A brilliant second wine, the 2000 Carruades de Lafite (51.4% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42.3% Merlot, 4.9% Cabernet Franc, and 1.4% Petit Verdot), aged in 10-15% new French oak, shows wonderfully sweet lead pencil shavings intermixed with an elegant black cherry and cassis nose. A wine of tremendous purity, medium body, and the tell-tale Lafite elegance, this is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next 12-15 years.
