Chateau Latour Forts de Latour

2007 Forts de Latour

By Chateau Latour

2007 Forts de Latour from Chateau Latour, Pauillac, Bordeaux

The 2007 Forts de Latour from Chateau Latour stands as a testament to the mastery of fine wine crafting in an offbeat vintage for Bordeaux. Whilst many estates struggled with the climatic vagaries of the season, the diligent assemblage by Chateau Latour bore fruit to a vintage that juxtaposes early approachability with the Pauillac appellation's classic structure.

A Riveting Composition from a Challenging Year

Investors and connoisseurs alike undoubtedly recognize that a cooler and wetter year such as 2007 moulds the flavour tapestry distinctly when compared to the usual Bordeaux robustness. The vintage demanded astute vigilance in vineyard and chai, to which Chateau Latour’s team responded with their customary precision. This effort is evidenced in the composure of the tertiary palate now emerging in this bottle's maturation arc.

An Eloquent Expression of Pauillac Terroir

The 2007 Forts de Latour is a symphony of understated elegance; its bouquet unfurling notes of pencil lead and crushed rock—hallmarks of Pauillac—melded impeccably with dark berries and a hint of tobacco leaf. Supple tannins grace the palate, beautifully interlaced with a refreshing acidity that propels the 2007 Forts de Latour to an impressively lengthy finish.

During repose in one's cellar, or as a poised addition to any investment portfolio, this vintage acknowledges not only the pedigree of Chateau Latour but also their resilience and capability to produce remarkably harmonious wines even when nature bestows a challenging script.

In conclusion, the 2007 vintage from Chateau Latour calls forth a narrative of finesse over fanfare. It serves as both an educational chapter for enthusiasts eager to explore the nuances within less lauded years and an astute acquisition for investors seeking poised elegance from this storied Pauillac winemaker.

The outstanding 2007 Les Forts de Latour reveals a touch of graphite and black currant fruit intermixed with an unmistakable minerality. It is a generous, silky textured, medium to full-bodied, evolved, elegant, and pure offering that is ideal for drinking over the next 10-12+ years.

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 Les Forts de Latour has a fully mature bouquet with melted tar, graphite and black fruit scents, with a touch of tobacco in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a little chewy, with white pepper and a tobacco-stained finish that is very classic and unapologetically conservative in style. This is probably at its peak now, although it has the body to suggest it will hold in there for several years. Tasted February 2017.

Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. This was a disappointing showing from the reliable second wine of Latour but hey
