An Emblematic Vintage for Investors

The Distinctive Palette of 1989
Upon pouring, one is instantly struck by its deep garnet hue, hinting at maturity whilst stepping back from fully yielding its age. The nose exudes a harmonious blend of blackcurrant, earthy truffle, and subtle oak—a triumvirate of aroma that speaks to an elegantly orchestrated elevage. The palate follows suit; as one would fondly expect from a well-aged Bordeaux, it delivers complexity without sacrificing vigour. With tannins that have softened into whisper-like caresses and an enduring finish, this true Pauillac marque carries notes of graphite and cigar box—an homage to its lineage and the grace of time.
Impressively structured yet refined, the 1989 Pontet Canet lingers in privilege and promises further revelation upon decanting. Moreover, this offering harbours an incontestable allure for investors: a maturity that denotes readiness for enjoyment or continued cellarage as part of a diversified portfolio.
Forging Decades with Elegance
In sum, the 1989 Pontet Canet narrates not only the story of an exemplary year but punctuates it with its own distinguished chapter within the grand library of Bordeaux vintages. As we continue to marvel at the profundity exhibited by this storied producer's oeuvre, it is no wonder that connoisseurs and investors alike revere such years—and this wine exemplifies why. In every glass is a wealth of potential; a luxurious testament to time well-kept, truly one to cherish.

Scores and tasting notes
A somewhat disjointed wine with impressive component parts but still somewhat ruggedly thrown together, with the tannins dry and all too noticeable. Nevertheless, the color remains a healthy ruby/garnet, and the smoky nose of melted licorice intermixed with creme de cassis, earth, and dried herbs is alluring. In the mouth it is medium-bodied, moderately tannic, but somewhat dry in the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2015. Last tasted, 9/02.
