By Chateau Pavie

1995 Pavie from Chateau Pavie, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux

In the world of fine Bordeaux, certain vintages carry with them an air of distinction, fostering the deep-seated love of oenophiles and eliciting spirited discussions amongst connoisseurs. It is in such vintages that investments and legacies are made, and the 1995 Pavie from Chateau Pavie is no exception. Nestled in the storied landscape of Saint-Émilion, this vintage has breached the quarter-century mark and emerged as a most fascinating study in maturation.

A Vintage of Graceful Evolution

The 1995 Pavie reveals a journey from power to poise, showing a beguiling transition that marks it out as one of Chateau Pavie’s more meritorious vintages. While the estate is no stranger to producing some of Saint-Émilion’s most robust offerings, this particular year offers a softer touch – a symposium of ripe fruit led by plum and fig, supported by an earthy undertone and hints of tobacco that have developed beautifully with age.

It’s worth noting that 1995 was a year spared the extremities of weather that can mark Bordeaux vintages; instead, it stands in the memory for balance and consistency. This steadiness during the growing season has translated into a wine of exquisite structure – firm yet well-rounded tannins providing backbone to the full-bodied opulence on display.

An Exemplar for Investors

For investors looking into fine wines as a tangible asset with potential for appreciation, the 1995 Pavie represents an impeccable choice. One may consider it not just for its enological virtues but also for its stature within the arc of Chateau Pavie's history – preceding an era of more intense, concentrated expressions born from changes in both management and wine-making philosophy.

In summation, the 1995 Pavie from Chateau Pavie manifests a captivating profile: mature yet tireless, steeped in tradition but unfettered by time. For those drawn to Saint-Émilion’s charm – or indeed those investing with foresight – this vintage stands as a repository of value both hedonistic and fiduciary. Its journey thus far assures us that it will continue to enchant palates and portfolios alike.

Medium plum/ruby in color, with a distinctive peppery, leafy, spicy nose with vague hints of red cherry and currant fruit, this is a rigid, austere wine with an angular personality and severe tannin. There is some ripe fruit on the attack, but that is quickly dominated by the wine's structural components. This may turn out to be a pleasant wine, but my best guess is that it will dry out. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2010.
