By Chateau Pavie
2020 Pavie from Château Pavie, Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux, France
In the pantheon of Bordeaux legends, 2020 Pavie from Château Pavie exhibits a splendour that distinctly marks the complexities and triumphs of its vintage. The wine speaks eloquently of its prestigious terroir with sibylline whispers from the limestone depths of Saint-Émilion.
Exploration of a Turbulent Season
The year 2020 was a dramatic odyssey of climate twists for the vigneron, where the volubility of nature imposed a stringent test upon the vines. Despite this capricious weather, Château Pavie's astute management harnessed these vicissitudes to craft a vintage with imposing character and astute balance.
A Rendezvous with Elegance and Power
The 2020 vintage unfurls a tapestry awash with concentrated flavours that entice seasoned connoisseurs and investors alike. Notes of sumptuous blackberry and cherries in brandy mingle with ineffable hints of truffle and fresh violet, creating an olfactory sonnet that reverberates with each swirl in the glass. This wine does not merely engage the senses—it embraces them in a complex pas de deux between opulence and finesse.
On the palate, the 2020 Pavie offers an enigmatic interplay; robust tannins are poised against the backdrop of Saint-Émilion’s distinctive minerality with grace rather unparalleled. It is an oeuvre that proclaims its pedigree through a lingering finish - both a paean to its ancestry and a harbinger of its auspicious cellar potential.
Investment-wise, the vintage bespeaks not only prestige but also prudence. Given its meticulosity in creation and subsequent reception by those appreciative of enological masterpieces, this vintage stands as a formidable addition to any portfolio.
In closing, when one contemplates the 2020 Pavie from Château Pavie, they encounter a narrative embodied in liquid form—a narrative replete with challenges wrought by nature but ultimately conquered by human artistry. As such, it promises to be not just a gem in terms of flavour profile, but as an increasingly uncommon commodity appealing to shrewd investors who discern future value in today's glasses.

Scores and tasting notes
Composed of 50% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Franc and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2020 Pavie weighs in with an alcohol of 14.82% and a pH of 3.61. It is aging in French oak barriques, 75% new. Opaque purple-black colored, notes of plum pudding, blueberry pie and dark chocolate-covered cherries charge out of the gate, followed closely by hints of eucalyptus, star anise, unsmoked cigars and fertile loam with a hint of cedar chest. The full-bodied palate is built like a brick house, offering very firm yet wonderfully ripe, velvety tannins and seamless freshness to support the densely laden, muscular black and blue fruits, finishing very long and with loads of mineral-laced layers. As hedonic as it is cerebral this year, it is a beautiful paradox.
