An Oenophile's Odyssey: The 2002 Pinnacle

In this lauded vintage, climatic benevolence bestowed richness upon the region, with a particularly clement growing season that led to optimal ripeness. This confluence of atmospheric graces incubated a vintage that stands gracefully, even within Domaine Coche-Dury's illustrious echelon.

The Quintessence of Terroir and Tradition

The 2002 Corton Charlemagne captures the pure essence of its limestone-clad slopes, articulating a vertebraic minerality that anchors the lush fruit nuances in an embrace as tenacious as it is tender. With an unyielding structure and vigor that whispers tales of longevity, a breadth of pear, ripe apple, and hints of citrus zest enliven the palate, culminating in an ensemble that captures one's senses like an autumnal symphony.

Not merely a triumph of Domaine Coche-Dury's meticulous viticulture and unhurried élevage, but also a paragon for collectors and investors with an eye for a profound enological heritage. Here lies a rare confluence where investment potential dovetails effortlessly with profound drinking pleasure.

In assessing this esteemed Burgundian jewel, one finds not merely evidence of exceptional wine-making, but a vignette of history encapsulated within each bottle—a narrative steeped in the soils of Corton Charlemagne. While many vintages excel, the 2002 iteration bears witness to an alignment in the cosmos for Burgundy enthusiasts and fine wine investors alike. An oeuvre masterful in its execution; profound in its delivery.

The 2002 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru was the one vintage that didn’t entirely meet my expectations. The wine offers up notes of lemon oil, mint, vanilla pod, white flowers and salty soil tones, followed by a full-bodied, ample wine with considerable substance but seemingly missing some of the cut, energy and coherence that even the less celebrated among these eleven vintages displayed. I wonder if it was a perfect bottle?
