In the pantheon of Burgundy's revered crus, the 2009 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru from Domaine Comte de Vogue presents itself as a testament to the marriage between impeccable viticulture and resonant terroir. My tenure as a custodian of wine reviews has seldom offered such a paradisiacal encounter as that which I experienced with this splendid vintage. It’s a benchmark year, displaying the nuances that accompany a season of generous ripeness and equanimous climates.
A Study of Sophistication: A Collector's Muse
The finesse of Maison Comte de Vogue, intertwined with the acclaimed 2009 growing season, mustered a Bonnes-Mares of consummate poise. The environs of Côte de Nuits bestowed on this particular year a benignity that coaxed from the vines an equilibrium between concentration and aromatic vibrancy—a trademark sought by fine wine investors.
Defining the Vintage
A vintage acclaimed for its precocity, 2009 marked Burgundy with benevolent sunshine, mitigated by timely rains—an optimising dance for the grapes' maturation. This Bonnes-Mares stands as an erudite exhibition of that climate symphony. Unearthing a bouquet richly laden with ripe cherries and blackberries, it promenades through undercurrents of earthy spice and forest floor nuances. On the palate, this Grand Cru delineates itself with supple tannins and beautiful longevity. The velvety mouthfeel is embraced by refined acidity that sings long into its denouement.
An astute consideration for curation in one's collection, this particular incarnation by Domaine Comte de Vogue unfolds with grace in the cellar—a privilege to hold and a delight to uncork. Possessing robust investment potential, it is not merely the mastery in vinification that affirms its value; it is also the 2009 harvest's radiant character imprinted indelibly upon each bottle.
In Summation: A Vintage to Cherish
Revisiting the 2009 Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru from Domaine Comte de Vogue unveils not only an exemplary embodiment from a benevolent season but also an invitation to savour Burgundy’s artistry at its most sublime. Those fortunate enough to include this vintage in their cellars will find themselves custodians of a Burgundian touchstone—one poised to accrue both worth and wonder as time proceeds.

The 2009 Bonnes-Mares is quite big and powerful yet also possesses a seamlessness that is very 2009. Waves of black fruit, spices, menthol and licorice saturate the palate as this large-scaled, dramatic wine opens up in the glass. The Bonnes-Mares boasts a tremendous combination of fruit and sheer structure. The 2009 is more approachable than the 2010 and nearly as dazzling. It will still require quite a bit of time, however, readers need to be patient. Anticipated maturity: 2024-2039.
