The year was kissed by fortune with a congenial spring followed by an impeccably dry August and warm September, culminating in a harvest that was both abundant and qualitative. These climatic conditions coalesced into a fortuitous symphony that sang through the resulting wines.

Distinctive Qualities of a Stellar Year

The 2009 vintage gifts us with a tapestry woven from robust tannins and a kaleidoscope of aromas hinting at ripe cherries and incense, delicately interlaced with an undercurrent of earthy minerality. There is vibrancy in its matured but still lively fruit, and the precision of balance that Domaine Fourrier achieves bespeaks of their unwavering commitment to finesse. This Griottes Chambertin is anchored in tradition yet soars with contemporary elegance.

Capitalising on what nature provided, this richly layered wine will continue to evolve gracefully, enchanting palates today as assuredly as it will in decades to come. As a crucial part of any refined investment portfolio, it embodies not just the hallmark characteristics of its lineage but the specificities of a banner year—a characteristic of paramount concern for discerning investors seeking out singular experiences.

In summary, the 2009 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Fourrier is endowed with an almost painterly finesse, capturing the imagination as much as it captivates the taste buds. I must say that whilst I adored the 2009 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras in its youth, it is not developing with quite the aplomb I was hoping. It has a complex bouquet with an undercurrent of savouriness, dried blood and brown spices, perhaps just a touch more advanced than I was expecting. The palate is smooth and sensual on the entry that is a doppelganger for a Vosne-Romanée. Plush and sumptuous, it is a sexy Nuits Saint Georges but I wanted something more cerebral on the finish. It is an excellent Aux Cras...but it does not quite deliver on the promise it showed 2-3 years ago. Tasted June 2015.
