Emblematic of its esteemed pedigree, the 2014 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair is a remarkable testament to the marriage of noble tradition and the unmistakable character of a singular vintage. With four decades vested in traversing the intricate landscape of fine wines, my palate has been consistently allured by the exceptional offerings from Burgundy and in particular those from the hallowed plot of Clos du Chateau.
Stately Elegance: A Portrait of the Vintage
The 2014 vintage was one graced by Burgundy's willful climate, presenting challenges that ultimately sculpted a wine of precision and eloquence. While earlier in the season, dampness cast a weary shadow upon the vineyards; a stellar conclusion to summer ensured that each berry encapsulated Vosne-Romanée's quintessential charm and finesse. It is this triumphant chronicle from bud-break to harvest that lends the 2014 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair its aristocratic poise.
A resinous whisper of rose petals mingles with a rich tapestry of crimson fruit and subtle earth in this expressive libation. The palate reveals an intricately laced structure—firm yet refined tannins support layered complexities of fruit amidst an undercurrent of mineral impetus pertinent to its terroir.
Past, Present, and An Investment for the Future
The endurance of such a vintage promises enrichment with age—a cardinal principle for wine investors seeking both pleasure and potential yield. Indeed, much like nectar distills into ambrosial honey over time, so does the 2014 Vosne Romanee Clos du Chateau from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, with latent textures budding to surface over years resting in repose.
In summation, the 2014 iteration stands as a remarkable investment piece—capable not only of transcending its initial splendour but also poised to escalate in desirability among aficionados and collectors alike. As these bottles nestle into cellars across the globe, they affirm their status as liquid chronicles—one envisages them reemerging years hence, symbols not just of a confluence between man, vine, and season but also as domains yielding delicious dividend.

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château, which is 100% destemmed, has more red fruit than the 2014 Colombières -- raspberry coulis, pressed flowers, quite nuanced with nicely integrated new oak. The palate is fresh and vibrant with crisp acidity, edgy and fresh with good tension interwoven from start to finish, and a tang of spice on the aftertaste.

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château has a delightful red cherry and crushed strawberry nose with plenty of joie de vivre. The palate is well balanced with crisp tannin, a little hardness on the entry but that will ebb away with time. Fine structure on the finish with dried orange peel, enjoy this over the next 6-8 years. Just a delightful village cru from start to finish. Tasted November 2016.
