1995 Nuits St Georges aux Allots from Domaine Leroy, Burgundy, France
In the annals of Burgundian viniculture, certain vintages rise above their brethren, ensconced in a tapestry of enological grandeur. The 1995 Nuits St Georges aux Allots from Domaine Leroy is precisely such a vintage; a consummate expression of terroir derived from the storied soils of Burgundy’s Nuits-Saint-Georges.
A Quintessential Vintage
Time, that great curator of fine wine, has stewarded the 1995 Nuits St Georges aux Allots to its zenith. The nearing three decades in bottle have sculpted the wine's structure and flavours, merging them into an opus of complexity and finesse. A year marked by its rigorous start and magnanimous end, 1995 laid the stage for grapes with balanced acidity and concentrated flavours—a testimony to the relentless dedication of Domaine Leroy.
Precise Craftsmanship, Profound Elegance
This vintage reveals a virtuoso performance in winemaking, where enigmatic dark fruits marry a subtlety of earthy undertones—an emblematic characteristic achieved under the meticulous guardianship of Lalou Bize-Leroy. The 1995 Nuits St Georges aux Allots captivates with layers of ripe cherries and plums, integrated neatly with whispers of truffles and rich forest floor—a testament to its investment-worthiness. With tannins rendered supple through maturity, each sip is a celebration of evolved grace.
The Intrinsic Worth of Maturation
Fine wine investors are often regaled with tales of vintages that possess the dual capacity to enrapture the palate whilst promising appreciative longevity. The 1995 Nuits St Georges aux Allots stands as a resolute paragon of such calibre. In an era where the lexicon of luxury includes maturity akin to wisdom, this wine remains competently positioned at the apex—one need not look further for a Burgundy that encapsulates the brilliance of aged Pinot Noir.
As an arbiter of fine wines and their bespoke narratives, I declare that to luxuriate in the ambrosial splendour of the 1995 Nuits St Georges aux Allots from Domaine Leroy is to understand both the sanctity and sagacity imbued in a bottle—wherein lies a tranquil assurance that only the rarest pleasures can provide.

Scores and tasting notes
The handful of critics that whine about Mme. Leroy's wines all tasting the same should go to the trouble of acquiring and tasting her wines rather than repeating some of Burgundy's most appalling and viscous rumors. The proof is in the pudding, as her intense line-up of distinctly different 1995 Nuits demonstrates. Aromatically spicy and flinty , the dark-colored Nuits-St.-Georges Aux Allots is a superb, masculine, four-square, minerally, cassis and blueberry-filled, medium-to-full bodied, powerful hunk of a wine. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2007. This note is the result of tastings I did in Burgundy between January 7 and January 29. The wine was tasted from cask, not bottle. Pinot Noir, a fragile varietal, reacts poorly to fining, filtration, and careless bottling techniques, I recommend caution when considering buying a red burgundy based on cask samples. I called it as I tasted it, and hope the bottled wine reflects the quality of the samples I was provided. Importer: Martine's Wines, San Raphael, CA; tel. (415) 485-1800.
