An exhibition of the favourable 2005 vintage circumstances
The propitious conditions of 2005 ushered in a prime maturation period for the Grenache and Syrah grapes, pivotal mainstays in Chateauneuf-du-Pape blends. The warm yet not overwhelming summer days followed by refreshing evenings so characteristic of this vintage assured an unhurried ripening. The result? An unrivalled intensity and depth in flavour alongside the maintenance of delightful acidity levels.
A true embodiment of Domaine de Pegau
In every swirl, sip, and savour of this quixotic blend, you're immersed in a narrative interwoven with shards of blackcurrant and raspberry enveloped in intoxicating wisps of liquorice and spice. The robust tannins inherent to the vintage give it its impressive structure and commandeer your taste buds on a journey from vibrant fruity zeniths to languidly luscious valleys.
The integrity of the forward fruit expression from the Grenache varietal and the sheer effusiveness of Syrah provide a spectrum that walks you through both the vivacity and sophistication that this vintage stands testament to. Here we see Domaine de Pegau delivering its homage to tradition, with an unrivalled insight into the archetypal Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

The 2005 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Laurence is terrific, and is certainly the finest release since the ’98 and ’01. The same blend as the classic cuvee (85% Grenache, 10% Syrah and the rest Mourvèdre and other varieties), it spent a full 48 months in old foudre prior to bottling. Gorgeously complex, with soaring garrigue, saddle leather, beef blood, iron and distinct minerality, this beauty is full-bodied, rich and layered on the palate, with a massive amount of fruit and tannin. Intense, Provencal, layered and decadent, enjoy this beauty over the coming 10-15 years.
