2020 Lafite Rothschild from Chateau Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux

In the tapestry of Bordeaux’s illustrious vines, there are few as breathtaking as those belonging to the fabled Chateau Lafite Rothschild. The coveted 2020 Lafite Rothschild stands a testament to the enduring legacy of this premier cru estate. As we delve into its enigmatic charm, it is apparent that 2020 has gifted collectors with a vintage steeped in poise and potential.

Harmony and Precision: A Vintage Crafted by Nature's Hand

The peculiarities of 2020 began with an erratic climate, yet it culminated in a harvest that was nothing short of miraculous- a typical testament to Bordeaux's resilience. Yields were moderate, focusing concentration, with the Pauillac appellation expressing itself elegantly through ideal ripening conditions. The 2020 Lafite Rothschild emerged from this crucible as a paragon of balance and complexity.

A Distinct Expression of Pauillac Terroir

This was a year that projected the capabilities of exceptional terroirs to weather the caprices of Nature. And indeed, the gravelly soils of Pauillac have sculpted the 2020 Lafite Rothschild into an architectural marvel. Classic notes of cassis and black cherry interplay with subtle hints of violet and pencil shavings – a nod to the graphite-rich soils from which this treasure springs. A background cadence of cedar and warm spices attests to a judicious maturation in oak barrels.

On the palate, this wine is an epitome of finesse; robust yet refined tannins command a structured mouthfeel, unperturbed by its yet youthful phase. Poised acidity ensures that this wine not only offers immediate sophistication but promises monumental ageing potential as well.

In the realm of fine wine investment, the 2020 Lafite Rothschild undeniably holds sway. Its intricately woven profile hints at its future status amongst the most celebrated vintages. As it journeys through maturation, discerning investors would do well to regard it as a quintessential addition to their portfolios.

The Chateau Lafite Rothschild has once again delivered an exemplar vintage with the 2020 release – a wine that resonates with the harmonious song of its heralded ancestry while carrying forth its own unique tale through the landscape of time.

Displaying a deep purple-black color, the 2020 Lafite Rothschild takes a little swirling and coaxing to unlock scents of freshly crushed blackcurrants, boysenberries and spiced plums, followed by emerging nuances of red roses, raspberry preserves, underbrush and unsmoked cigars, with a waft of cedar chest. The medium-bodied palate is an exercise in elegance and finesse, featuring tightly wound layers of red and black berries and loads of mineral sparks, framed by finely grained tannins and well-poised tension, finishing with fantastic length and the most stunning perfume. Magnificent achievement. This 2020 is a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, coming in at 12.8% alcohol and a pH of 3.9.
