2008 La Conseillante

By Chateau La Conseillante

2008 La Conseillante from Chateau La Conseillante, Pomerol, Bordeaux

The Bordeaux landscape proffers an array of stellar vintages, among which the 2008 La Conseillante from Chateau La Conseillante in Pomerol undoubtedly carves its own distinguished niche. Its arrival during my decades-long sojourn through vinous realms was met with an enthusiasm typically reserved for far more auspicious years, yet time has graciously upheld this vintage as a testament to the undying alchemy of terroir and human endeavour.

Vintage Virtuosity: An Oenophile's Delight

Chateau La Conseillante, with its storied lineage and steadfast commitment to quality, embraced the natural climatic whims of 2008 to produce a wine that balances deftly on the knife-edge of power and elegance. That year's erratic weather patterns crescendoed with an Indian summer, bestowing a critical reprieve for perfecting phenolic maturity—a boon for investors seeking robust yet finessed Bordeaux that stood shoulder-to-shoulder with more celebrated vintages.

A Confluence of Earth and Element

The 2008 La Conseillante captures the unique character of its birth year—a cooler vintage that imparts a vigor often eclipsed in warmer years. From first nose to final palate, it spins a well-tempered narrative; blackberries and plums pirouette amidst whispers of truffle and wet earth, while fine tannins thread through its structure like silk through brocade. Proper cellaring promises further symphonies of complexity for those discerning enough to appreciate them.

Wine investment aficionados recognize the value encapsulated within this particular expression from Chateau La Conseillante. While 2005 or 2009 may garner broader acclaim, the 2008 iteration stands as a dark horse amongst vinous giants, offering diversity and depth to any cultivated portfolio.

In the pantheon of profitable indulgences, the 2008 La Conseillante presents an opulent melody from Pomerol's lush vineyards. Its current crescendo has not yet reached its zenith, promising further enchantment for both palate and portfolio in the years yet unfurled.

The beautiful 2008 exhibits a dark plum/ruby/purple color as well as jammy red and black fruit, crushed rock and floral notes. If this were a Burgundy, one might think of it as a grand cru Musigny. With excellent texture, medium to full body and stunning purity as well as nobility, this fascinating Pomerol should drink well for 15-20 years.
