In the realm of fine wine investment, the 2011 Trotanoy from Chateau Trotanoy emerges as a beacon of stability and grace amidst the notoriously capricious weather patterns that hallmarked the 2011 Bordeaux vintage. The Pomerol estate, with its blue-chip pedigree, bestows upon this vintage qualities that lend it distinction in both longevity and depth.

A Vintage Carved by Climatic Contrasts

The 2011 vintage in Pomerol was an intricate tapestry of climatic inconsistencies—a cool, dry winter followed by a scorching spring and a summer that veered between extremes. It would take a vigneron with considerable skill to navigate such meteorological vicissitudes. The deft hands at Chateau Trotanoy have done so with aplomb, presenting an offering that embodies both the resilience and the finesse of the Merlot grape when pressed by Mother Nature's fluctuations.

The 2011 Trotanoy from Chateau Trotanoy exhibits an opulent array of dark fruits, interwoven with the understated yet prevailing hints of truffle—a nuance quintessential to the terroir of Pomerol. Tertiary notes of earthy forest floor have begun to unfurl, suggesting an evolution that calls to mind the subtleties of fine tapestries emerging through the wefts of time.

The Singular Dance of Structure and Elegance

Tannins in the 2011 Trotanoy are assertive yet refined; akin to the masterful brushstrokes of a painter ensuring their work will endure for generations. They bring structure to a palate graced by a fresh acidity that teases out a vibrant and enduring finish. This balance speaks to the deft craftsmanship at Chateau Trotanoy—a vital consideration for collectors seeking wines with promising maturity trajectories.

In light of these attributes, the 2011 Trotanoy can be embraced as a prudent acquisition for enthusiasts and investors alike; it is a lustrous gem within the eclectic crown that is Bordeaux’s millennium vintage range. A worthy addition to any connoisseur's cellar, it exemplifies how challenging vintages can yield treasures crafted with patience and expertise.

This shows very fine tannins for the vintage. Polished. Full body with a solid core of fruit and a long, caressing finish. Classy for the vintage. Drink in 2017.

Tasted at JP Moueix. The Trotanoy 2011 has a wonderful bouquet that soars from the glass: crushed raspberry and wild strawberry mixed with crushed stone. It has a crystalline quality that is uncommon in 2011. The palate is beautifully composed with very fine structure, a touch of spice, incredible focus and stunning precision on the finish. It has a tensile quality all of its own. This is a quintessential Trotanoy, though one that is not in the same class as either the previous two vintages. Tasted April 2012.

Rich, dense, masculine and substantial, Trotanoy has produced a bigger wine than most 2011s. Similar to the masculinity and robustness of Gazin, with more mineral content, this medium to full-bodied, muscular effort will benefit from 3-4 years of cellaring and should keep for two decades. Think black cherries, earth, baking spices and serious extract!
