Harmonious Alchemy: The 1999 Vintage Narrative
The vintage of 1999 in Bordeaux escaped the celestial wrath that its immediate predecessors endured. While lacking the meteorological drama, it brought forth a temperate growing season, culminating in wines that strike a comely balance between ripe fruit and structured tannins. Within this dichotomy, the 1999 Leoville Poyferre unfurls its own compelling tale, weaving ripe tannins with a tapestry of mature flavours that remain robust yet genteel.
St-Julien Elegance: An Asset for Oenophiles
The composure of this wine from Chateau Leoville Poyferre entices with a mature nose of blackcurrants, earthy undertones and a wisp of leather – a serenade to olfactory senses. The palate is graced with mellifluous layers of fruit and earth, resonating with the poised elegance inherent within St-Julien’s terroir. The finish dallying with grace, imparts a savour that is at once profound and unpretentious.
The éclat of 1999 Leoville Poyferre has unfurled gracefully over time and now presents investors the opportunity to embrace not just the serene maturity of a two-decade-old Bordeaux but also the prospect of heightened appreciation both in palate and in market valuation.
The investment appeal for wine connoisseurs lies not merely in its storied past but in the staid assurance of this vintage's placid evolution and its auspicious future trajectory. Intelligent investment in this tranquil yet dynamic vintage could offer quiet satisfaction as it burgeons within one's cellar or portfolio.
In summation, the 1999 Leoville Poyferre embodies a dignified chapter in the chronicles of Chateau Leoville Poyferre, speaking volumes through its poised complexity and mellow maturity—an enriching addition to collections that favour finessed longevity over boisterous immediacy.

Tasted at the 1999 horizontal at Bordeaux Index. One of my favourite '99s, this has a very lifted, well-defined nose that eschews the more opulent bouquet that Didier sometimes conjures. Blackberry, cedar, raspberry leaf, pencil shavings. The palate is medium-bodied, not quite as ebullient as the bottle in Bordeaux last year, but it has great vivacity and purity towards the finish. Sappy blackberry, boysenberry and strawberry with a touch of Asian spice. Excellent. Drink now-2025. Tasted June 2009.

A perfumed bouquet of flowers, jammy cassis, sweet oak, and truffles jumps from the glass of this ripe, classic, mid-weight claret. The wine is elegant rather than powerful. It possesses intense fruit, admirable ripeness as well as balance, and a long finish. Enjoy this beautiful, sexy Poyferre over the next 12-14 years.
