2012 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru
By Domaine Comte de Vogue
2012 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from Domaine Comte de Vogue, Burgundy, France
In the pantheon of Burgundy vintages, the 2012 presents as something of an enigmatic treasure, at once challenging and rewarding for those with the acumen to harness its potential. The 2012 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from Domaine Comte de Vogue exemplifies this duality. A vintage touched by capricious weather, its limited yields culminated in a density of flavour that connoisseurs and investors alike should take keen interest in.
Vintage Veracity: A Testament to Terroir
Spring frost and summer hailstorms usually spell disaster, but such was not the case for 2012 throughout Burgundy. A smaller harvest brought forth fruit that was both concentrated and expressive of Chambolle-Musigny's unique terroir. The Premier Cru from Domaine Comte de Vogue rides on waves of dark cherry and ripe red berries, with subtler notes of violet and an unmistakable minerality piercing through—a distinguished performance owed to the low yield and intense nurturing of vines.
Investment Acumen: Ascertaining Value amidst Adversity
The trials faced by the 2012 varietals force a sort of Darwinian excellence upon them; survival was not granted to the commonplace grape. This resilience translates into significant investment potential. With a structure that whispers longevity and complexity that promises unfolded depths over time, the 2012 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru is an assertive choice for affluent palates seeking to diversify their portfolios.
The palate is greeted by a firm structure balanced with silken tannins, while a flirtation with oak contact introduces a delicate spicing. Though bearing the capacity for lengthy cellaring, it manages a precociously harmonious profile now—a testament to the savoir-faire at Domaine Comte de Vogue.
An encounter with this Premier Cru is an education in the alchemy between climatic rigor and winemaker artistry. For those attuned to the narratives spun within each vintage's embrace, this 2012 Chambolle-Musigny captures a tale ripe for telling—and investing—at the summit of vinous sophistication.

The 2012 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru has a very detailed bouquet with a touch more nuance and complexity compared to the Chambolle Musigny Village : blackberry, mineral and a slight marine influence. The palate has a firm backbone, plenty of black pepper here sprinkled over the broody black fruit: masculine and intense with a long sustained finish and that pinch of black pepper lingering on the aftertaste. This will need 8 to 10 years in the cellar but it will be worth the wait.
