2014 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from Domaine Comte de Vogue, Burgundy, France
Nestled in the heart of Burgundy's storied vineyards, Domaine Comte de Vogue's Chambolle-Musigny site has long been a touchstone for connoisseurs seeking the pinnacle of Pinot Noir sophistication. The 2014 vintage emerged from a challenging start to the growing season, with the winegrowers' finesse playing a pivotal role in its triumph over the early dampness of spring and summer’s hailstorms.
Elegance Against the Odds: A Vintage of Subtlety and Grace
The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru captures the essence of its climatic rollercoaster with a striking equilibrium between structural integrity and aromatic splendour. It underscores how fine wine investment focuses not just on the provenance but also on the survival and flourishing of specific vintages under climatic adversities.
Resilience defines this vintage—tempting whispers of red cherries, violets, and wet earth interlace with a disciplined tannin structure that is at once forthright yet pliant—a dance of power and delicacy exemplified by Domaine Comte de Vogue's commitment to terroir expression.
Layered Complexity: An Investable Virtue
The elevation of this Premier Cru lies not solely in its silken palate or the profound depth that unfolds with each swirl of the glass. Rather, it is in how this wine illustrates the malleability of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation to articulate a distinct narrative for each year—2014 being a story of triumph against nature's caprice.
With notes that evolve gradually from their nascent freshness to a crescendo of deep-set complexity, the 2014 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru from Domaine Comte de Vogue presents itself as an intriguing proposition for any astute patron; an oenological tapestry woven with care and deserving a place within any discerning investor's portfolio.
In synthesis, those seeking an eloquent testimony to the brilliance achievable in spite of—or perhaps due to—the challenges posed by Mother Nature need look no further than this compelling Burgundian offering. The 2014 Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru stands as a testament to Domaine Comte de Vogue's esteemed winemaking legacy—an articulate vintage that speaks volumes to those who take time to listen.

The 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru has a very classic bouquet, leaning more towards black fruit here, touches of slate and flint in the background, blackberry and raspberry preserve gaining intensity in the glass. There is less of the undergrowth scents that I noticed out of barrel. The palate is smooth and silky, perhaps a little more sorbet-like in character à la 2015, gently building to quite a sweet, candied orange peel and Asian spice tinged finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is showing great promise. Tasted November 2016.
