2010 Echezeaux Grand Cru from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, Burgundy, France
As I delve into the heart of Burgundy's prestigious terroirs, the 2010 Echezeaux Grand Cru from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair stands as a testament to exceptional winemaking in a challenging yet rewarding vintage. The year 2010 was typified by its climatic seesaws, presenting vignerons with trials that culminated in a crop marked by its concentration and structure, providing astute wine investors an opportunity not to be missed.
An Exquisite Exhibition of Elegance and Power
The decade's maturation has been kind to the 2010 Echezeaux Grand Cru, as it unfurls in the glass with an intoxicating bouquet reminiscent of cherries steeped in splendour, underpinned by a sumptuous earthiness and enlivened by a flutter of exotic spices. One understands the reverence this wine commands as the palate encounters a symphony of impeccable balance - a hallmark of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's adept craftsmanship.
Garnering Greatness from Geographical Graciousness
The nuances of 2010 at Echezeaux – facilitated by the season's slow ripening – have birthed a Grand Cru with an indomitable spirit, conveyed through tannins that are at once grippy yet refined. It is a telling illustration of how perilously poised viticulture, when met with diligence, can yield wines that enchant, entertain and endow cellars with gravitas.
In every respect, the 2010 vintage for the Echezeaux Grand Cru from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair captures the estate’s dedication to authenticity and quality. For the connoisseur or investor seeking provenance within their collection, this edition presents itself as one of commanding presence.
Conclusion: A Vintage to Revere and Invest
One leaves the tasting of the 2010 Echezeaux Grand Cru from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair feeling convinced of its finesse and longevity. It gracefully embodies both the intrigue of its vintage and the timelessness of its land. For those looking to enhance their portfolio with a Burgundian jewel, this vintage is undeniably an articulate choice, holding promise for further evolution and delighting those fortunate enough to uncork its complexities in years to come.

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2010 Echézeaux Grand Cru is much more closed and broody on the nose compared to the 2009 with hints of tinned apricot tincturing the black cherry and pomegranate fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, fine harmony and tension, gently building to a poised, lightly spiced, almost Richebourg-like finish. This has long-term potential. Tasted June 2015.
