2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Fourrier, Burgundy

The esteemed Domaine Fourrier, under the visionary winemaking finesse of Jean-Marie Fourrier, presents a narrative of elegance in the bottle with the 2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru. A vintage that asked vintners for skillful articulation of terroir amidst climatic reticence, the 2014 offering is an eloquent expression of the Griotte plot's full spectrum potential.

The Vintage Speaks: Delicate Intensity

In 2014, Burgundy faced its trials with a season marked by a cool start and hailstorms that required adroit pastoral care. In response to these rigors, Domaine Fourrier's Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru harnessed the region's fertile soil composition and favourable late harvest conditions to forge a wine of resilience and supple opulence.

Discerning Palate Investment: A Refined Rarity

This wine opens with a symphony of red fruits where cherries – true to the 'Griotte' designation – cherries prominently feature. Classical Burgundian overtures of earthiness and spiced wood are framed by a well-crafted structure, owing to conscientious élevage. A harmonious integration of subtle tannins graces the palate with longevity, hinting at a bouquet that will unfurl judiciously with time. Gentle wisps of violet and incense further adorn this labyrinthine sensorial experience, making it an alluring treasure in any fine wine investor's cache.

For those seeking to enrich their portfolio with a wine that speaks both of heritage and adaptability, the 2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Fourrier offers that paragon investment. Its narrative—a testament to the triumph over adversity—enhances its value in the eyes of collectors who seek exceptional stories bottled alongside exquisite wine.

The investment potential of the 2014 Griottes Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Fourrier benefits significantly from its capability to evolve gracefully under proper cellaring conditions. It is therefore recommended to those with discernment for intricacies within their liquid assets, promising returns as refined as its palate.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras from Liger-Belair has a very classy and sophisticated bouquet with beautiful pure black cherry, wild strawberry and briary scents that gently waft from the glass. The palate is very well balanced with fine tannin and a gentle grip in the mouth, with plenty of pure black fruit toward the finish. This is a noble 2014 that testifies top-notch terroir and, likewise, top-notch winemaking even if it needs to fully absorb the oak. Tasted September 2017.
