Immerse yourself in the epitome of finesse: the 2014 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair; a vintage that heralded a classical approach to winemaking in an era of climatic unpredictability. This particular year brought challenges that tested the mettle of Burgundian vineyards, yet Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair navigated these with exceptional skill, resulting in a wine that encapsulates both the resilience and the delicate terroir of its origins.
Nuances of Vosne-Romanée's Terroir – A Symphony in a Glass
The 2014 vintage was shaped by its cool, late summer, culminating in a race against time as vignerons hustled to harvest their grapes at the peak of phenolic maturity. The resulting 2014 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots encapsulates this tension beautifully, with an extraordinary balance between ripe fruit and structured tannins that hint at its excellent ageing potential. This is a wine that beckons connoisseurs to partake of its layered complexity.
On the nose, a bouquet of dark cherries and forestral undergrowth intricately woven with wisps of exotic spices reveals itself. A sip unravels silk-smooth tannins and an acidity that is luminous rather than pronounced, offering an undulating palate of red fruits interlaced with mineral tones that whisper stories of the limestone soils from which they emerged. Elegance is captured within each glass; it's a testament to the minimalist intervention philosophy of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair.
Investment Potential – Cellaring with Confidence
The 2014 Vosne Romanee Aux Reignots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair brings to your cellar a Burgundy that is not only distinctive for its character but enticing for wise collectors. The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots had to brush away a bit of reduction when I tasted at the domaine, allowing the blackberry, raspberry and iodine aromas to emerge. As with all of the domaine's 2014s, it is very well defined. The palate is silky smooth on the entry with a fine line of acidity, and tensile with a palpable sense of symmetry towards the finish that lingers long in the mouth. Just very Reignots.

The 2014 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots has a fragrant bouquet with redcurrant and cranberry aromas, superb mineralité with dried rose petals emerging with time. This is not dissimilar to the Les Suchots but I detected more focus and delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, slightly chalky tannin with a masculine, very poised finish. As I mentioned in my barrel sample note, it exudes Reignots in all its glass. Tasted November 2016.
