By Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair
2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, Burgundy, France
Amidst the tapestry of Burgundy's most hallowed terroirs, the 2012 vintage of Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair unfolds as a testimony to the sculpting hand of climatic adversity and the artistry of meticulous vinification. The year was woven with climatic challenges, yet emerged producing wines of extraordinary complexity and impressive longevity.
Provenance and Pedigree: A Symbiotic Elegance
The 2012 growing season in Burgundy was nothing short of dramatic, with a cold winter that lingered into spring, hailstorms, and a relatively small harvest. Yet, what defines this vintage is the extraordinary resilience these hardships fostered in the fruit. The lesser yields intensified the flavours within each berry; a silver lining to an otherwise mercurial season. Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, anchored by experience and intuition, captured the best nature offered that year.
A Vintage to Remember: The Singular Expression of 2012
Bearing an aromatic tapestry rife with dark cherries and ripe strawberries, the 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots seduces the olfactory senses with undertones of violet and a hint of cinnamon spice. On the palate, the influence of its noble pedigree unveils itself - layers upon layers of plush red fruit interlaced with earthy notes and refined minerality that speak directly of its prestigious Vosne-Romanée roots.
The textural finesse here is remarkable; silky tannins carry delicate yet pronounced flavours towards a lasting finish that mirrors a well-curated library bound in leather and sweet tobacco leaf. The structure, while firm, promises graceful maturation for those poised to invest in its journey through time.
In conclusion, collectors and connoisseurs will find in the 2012 Vosne-Romanée Les Suchots a symphony of challenges overcome. This wine from Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair stands as an emblem for the resolve inherent within this esteemed corner of Burgundy. A triumph amidst adversity, it presents not only an opportunity for sensory indulgence but also a potentially prudent addition to any discerning investor's portfolio.

Tasted at the Comte Liger-Belair vertical at the Château de Vosne. The 2012 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Suchots has a complex bouquet with broody dark berry fruit, hints of iodine and blueberry, and undercurrent of mineralité that comes through on the 2013. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, supple tannin. There is still a scintilla of oak to be integrated but that will be soaked up with time since there is impressive substance and drive on the finish. Afford this 8 to 10 years in the cellar. Tasted June 2015.
