Every summer, Liv-ex reveals the top 50 searched for wines based on visits to its individual wine pages from January to July. According to the platform, “search data acts as a barometer for the interests of fine wine merchants, showing where there have been changes in the trade’s interests each year.”
This year, as usual, Bordeaux First Growths continue to occupy the top five spots, with Lafite Rothschild maintaining its position as most viewed wine by Liv-ex members. Margaux, however, has overtaken Haut Brion to take third place, helped no doubt by its popular 2015 vintage.
Canon has had another strong year, climbing 23 spots to 20th place after climbing 24 places in 2017. Carmes Haut Brion has also performed well, rising 34 places. However as Liv-ex notes, trade is yet to catch up with search interest, as it ranks just 141st in terms of trade by value.
Opus One is the greatest non-Bordeaux climber, rising 24 places. Louis Roederer, Cristal, has also done well, jumping 18 places – its trade position has also seen a corresponding increase, moving to 9th place.
Vieux Chateau Certan was the table’s biggest faller, dropping 15 places. And as Liv-ex remarks, interest in Super Seconds appears to be waning slightly, with Ducru Beaucaillou (-8), Leoville Barton (-6), Leoville Poyferre (-5), Montrose (-4) and Chateau Pichon Baron (-2) all dropping down the rankings.
