Asian wine collectors are more likely to buy pricey cases of Bordeaux to drink, compared to their British and European counterparts who are more inclined to hold their investments to sell on at a later date.
The findings come from trading platform BI Fine Wine, which says that almost half of its sales came from customers in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Singapore last year.
BI’s head of marketing Giles Cooper told This Is Money that it’s rare that the wine they send to Singapore or Hong Kong will be traded back to the company. “It’s going there to go into people’s collections to be consumed,” he said.
