1995 Lascombes from Chateau Lascombes, Margaux, Bordeaux
The realm of Margaux is renowned for producing wines of extraordinary finesse and aromatic complexity. Delving into the library of such illustrious history, the 1995 Lascombes from Chateau Lascombes emerges as a vintage that encapsulates a period of recovery and promise.
Embodiment of Vintage and Terroir
The renowned Margaux appellation beheld a vintage in 1995 that was marked by a magnanimously dry and warm September, ensuring optimal ripeness for the Cabernet Sauvignon-led ensemble. This prowess is astutely captured in the 1995 Lascombes, which benefitted from the precise conditions to evolve its refined structure and expressive bouquet over time.
At peak maturity, one may discern a tapestry of aromas; cassis interlaced with tantalising hints of truffle, tobacco, and violets. The palate resonates with the gentle touch of maturity—lush layers of dark fruit harmonise with softened tannins and an elegantly poised longevity.
A Climatic Crescendo: Elegance Defined
The undeniable elegance of the Margaux appellation is exemplified here in a wine that dovetails gracefully with the climatic crescendo that defined its year. Those well-versed in the lush tapestries of aged Bordeaux will note that the 1995 Lascombes articulates this balance exquisitely, delivering a performance that appeals to connoisseurs and investors alike. One might argue its enigmatic allure lies not simply in its palate but equally in its investment profile; it reflects a time when Bordeaux was ascending once more to the summit of vinous excellence.
This vintage warrants both reverence for its present condition and anticipation for its potential to hold sway over discerning palates. With each bottle uncorked, the 1995 Lascombes from Chateau Lascombes offers a remarkable vignette into a specific moment of time for both Margaux and the world of fine wines—a narrative worth investing in.

Scores and tasting notes
Far less impressive after bottling than it was from cask, this wine is now a candidate for drying out given its hollow middle and hard, austere, angular finish. The color is medium ruby, the wine has moderate weight and sweet fruit in the nose and on the attack, but it closes down to reveal a tart, spartan personality. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2008. Neither the 1995 nor 1996 performed as well as they had in the past, both suffering from hard tannin, austere, dry personalities, and with respect to the 1995, tasting stripped, as if it had been excessively fined and/or filtered.
