In the tapestry of vintages from Pauillac, the 2015 Latour from Chateau Latour represents a richly detailed thread, showcasing the masterful nuance that both the house and the region are rightfully revered for. Belying a challenging Bordeaux harvest, the Chateau rose magnificently above climatic whims to birth a wine of fleeting rarity.

The Quintessential Combination: Elegance and Potency

The 2015 vintage was a fusion of poised elegance married to latent potency – a dynamic concord fashioned by Mother Nature’s selective pressures. Here, at the hands of Chateau Latour’s artisans, evocative varietal character and precise vinification have coalesced within this renowned Pauillac estate.

A Vintage Speaketh: The Climatic Orchestration

The growing season for Bordeaux's 2015 vintage began with a mild winter and advanced with a warm June setting the stage for excellent flowering conditions. A hot July and dry August were offset by September rains, which catalyzed the final maturation phase, allowing the grapes at Chateau Latour's historic vineyards to achieve sublime ripeness balanced with invigorating acidity.

On swirling in the glass, the 2015 Latour unfurls with an intoxicating bouquet; think dark cherries entwined with graphite and refined oak shadings, these components being a testament to Pauillac’s austere grace. The conglomerate textures on the palate – robust yet finely stitched tannins – support a decadent ensemble of dark fruit interlaced with touches of earthiness, indicative of this wine’s soaring cellar potential.

Rooted deeply in its investment-calibre profile, the 2015 Latour promises abiding allure for collectors and conjures strong anticipation for its evolution over time. Its splendid structure and concentration encapsulate Chateau Latour's philosophy of harmonious power tempered by articulate expression.

An Astute Oenophile's Choice

For enthusiasts and investors alike, the 2015 Latour is poised to become one of their most treasured holdings. Its distinct attributes – chiefly its climatic resilience and virtuosic assembly – render this creation from Chateau Latour not only an objét d'art for consumption but also an astute addition to any fine wine portfolio. A luminous star in the firmament of Bordeaux wine investment potential.

This is extremely compressed and elegant with fantastic finesse and structure. Full body, tight and racy. Lots of black currants and black berries. The quality of tannins are like tight, yet velvety tannins. Very minerally.

Containing one of the largest ever percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon, partly because the Merlot wasn’t up to snuff, this is a very pure, focused wine of considerable power and intensity. Pauillac at its very best, with stylish tannins and the concentration to age for two decades or more. Drink: 2028-40

The 2015 Latour is a blend of 97.1% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.6% Merlot (just one historical vat courtesy of old vines interpolated with the Cabernet) and 0.3% Petit Verdot. It represents 30% of the production and is matured in 100% new oak as usual. It has a very complex, nuanced bouquet that needs 10-15 minutes to open. It blossoms with blackberry, briary, hoisin and slate notes, but it remains very focused and linear. The palate is extremely well balanced with fine grain tannin. For certain, this is an intense Latour with a strong and tangible undertow of mineralité. This is classic Latour: aristocratic, aloof at first, perhaps enigmatic compared to other vintages. I wonder if this has something hiding up its sleeve for after bottling?

Very dark crimson. Scented and quite heady. Lively and muscular. Racy and really pacy. Not a charmer though. Very introvert. Bone-dry finish. A bit more tingle and life than in earlier vintages, though 2014 was probably the turning-point vintage for Latour. Hélène says the wine is more closed today than usual.
