2013 L'Evangile

By Chateau L'Evangile

2013 L'Evangile from Chateau L'Evangile, Pomerol, Bordeaux

In the tapestry of Bordeaux vintages, the 2013 is often sidestepped in favour of its illustrious neighbours. But for those who delve into the offerings of this challenging year, rewards are to be gleaned, particularly from the hallowed grounds of Chateau L'Evangile in Pomerol.

A Vintage Defying Expectations

Chateau L'Evangile's proficiency shone amidst a year fraught with climatic hurdles. The season's capricious nature—from a damp spring through an erratic summer to a race against autumnal rains—necessitated precision viticulture and judicious sorting. It is a testament to the team’s dedication that the 2013 L'Evangile flourished into a wondrous creation.

Refined Elegance in a Difficult Year

One encounters in the 2013 L'Evangile a patchwork of merlot's plums and currants interlaced with the commanding structure of cabernet franc. The wine's genesis in a cooler season imparted an alluring tension and freshness rarely seen in more opulent years. Indeed, it dances gracefully on the palate with measured weight—a symphony of understated power and nuanced flavours that investors should not overlook.

The wine wields an ageing potential remarkably distinct from its peers, owing much to its refined tannins and vibrant acidity. These characteristics promise a unique evolution, suggesting that the 2013 vintage will continue to unfurl its subtleties with cellar maturation, much like an eloquent narrative that gains depth chapter by chapter.

An Opulent Choice for Connoisseurs and Collectors Alike

Inviting contemplation, the 2013 L'Evangile holds promise for both connoisseurs seeking immediate drinking pleasure and collectors aiming for long-term investment. It stands as a boutique offering for portfolios centred around rarity and resilience – a sanctum of vinous allure amidst Bordeaux's oceanic vintages. Hence, considering its formidable performance in a notoriously fickle year, the 2013 L'Evangile is one to be cherished and watched as it continues to defy and surpass expectations.

The 2013 l'Evangile shows a slightly deeper color as well as more noticeable ripe raspberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with notions of licorice and incense. Again, there is no hint of herbaceousness or tannic astringency in this mid-weight, slightly superficial, but charming, pretty 2013. Consume it over the next 7-8 years. This magnificent estate owned by the Rothschild family appears to be the number one challenger to the supremacy of Petrus, one of its neighbors. The owners have purchased 15 acres from La Croix de Gay, all on the high plateau of Pomerol. Consequently, l'Evangile now covers 55 acres and 37 different parcels. Obviously, 2013 was a challenge from the beginning, although the 2013 l-Evangile has turned out to be charming, fruity and easy-to-drink. The problem is the price of entry for a good rather than inspirational effort.
