Amongst the labyrinth of Burgundy's terroirs, the 2013 vintage stood out with whispers of challenge and triumph. A Curious Vintage with Pedigree

Investors and connoisseurs pay homage to vintages that stir the soul and promise longevity. The 2013 vintage was a cooler year in Burgundy, thereby delaying harvest and ensuring a longer ripening period for the vines of Mazis Chambertin. Under the skilled hands at Domaine Armand Rousseau, these conditions were mastered to produce a wine of impeccable integrity and intrinsic cellar potential.

The character of this Grand Cru in 2013 is a dance between measured restraint and exuberant complexity. Notable is its aromatic preciseness; one discerns subtle hints of cherry and violet atop an earthy underbrush—an olfactory echo of Burgundy’s unique terroir.

The Investment Calibre of Armand Rousseau's Creation

The palate resonates with a similar theme; tannins are present, yet they beckon with silk rather than burlap, gently structuring around the core of red fruits that have begun to unfurl with age. Acidity remains pert, ensuring that with proper cellaring this wine will evolve gracefully over the coming decade or two.

For investors looking at fine wines as a diversification for their portfolio, the 2013 Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru from Domaine Armand Rousseau presents an astute opportunity. In terms of liquidity, wines hailing from such venerable producers in storied appellations perennially captivate the market's imagination—and wallet.

In summation, this vintage is not merely an expression of Domaine Armand Rousseau's ability to harness nature's ebb; it is an eternal statement piece for Burgundy in 2013—a vintage which shines not in spite of its trials, but because of them. The prudent investor would do well to consider the intricate possibilities threading through the 2013 Mazis Chambertin Grand Cru—a distinguished narrative in every glass.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Chambertin Grand Cru from Armand Rousseau had a slight reduction on the nose but underneath lies some gorgeous and ripe redcurrant, strawberry and bay leaf aromas. Very complex, but you need to wait for the aromas to fully get into their stride. The palate is extremely well balanced with fine tannins. It is blessed with wonderful focus and precision, armed with outstanding tension and intensity on the sophisticated finish. This is what we call in the trade: "proper Chambertin." Tasted September 2016.

The 2013 Mazis-Chambertin, matured in second-fill barrels, has a refined bouquet that is not a million miles away from the Charmes-Chambertin at the moment, but very precise and focused. The palate is very well balanced with tensile tannins and a keen thread of acidity: vibrant and shimmering in the mouth. With plenty of energy on the finish, this is a superb Mazis-Chambertin for the vintage.
