Capturing the Essence of 2001 with Precision and Elegance
The turn of the millennium was met with climatic challenges that unfurled throughout Burgundy's mosaic of microclimates. The season was notably cooler than preceding years, bestowing upon the fruit an extended ripening period. This went on to shape wines that balance exuberance with refinement—a hallmark of the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses soil's more feminine nuances.
The 2001 vintage from Domaine Comte de Vogue encapsulates this equilibrium splendidly. With each swirl and sip, it unfurls layers of dark cherry and ripe raspberry intertwined with whispers of violet and a slender mineral streak—an ode to the chalky limestone bedrock beneath. This wine’s carefully preserved acidity navigates effortlessly through its silken tannins, ensuring a drinking window that has gracefully expanded over two decades.
An Investment Worthy of Consideration
For collectors and investors alike, this vintage proves an alluring addition—striking when positioned against the pantheon of fine wines emerging from this cherished appelation. The finesse and subtlety this bottle possesses signal not only an exemplary snapshot of the 2001 vintage but also an enduring asset in any connoisseur’s portfolio.
In summation, the 2001 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses from Domaine Comte de Vogue holds its ground as a beacon of quality within its lineage, elegantly conveying both its temporal character and Burgundian pedigree. Now at 13 years of age, the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru les Amoureuses 2001 has a surprisingly reserved nose with broody, blackberry fruit. With continued aeration it curiously develops an almost Merlot-like character. The palate is aloof at first but gradually opens up to reveal its smooth, velvety interior. This is a very polished Amoureuses–you could almost argue too polished. Yes, there is a cheek-pinch of white pepper on the finish, but somehow it is missing the charm of the Chambolle 1er Cru 1999 tasted in tandem.
