Complexity and Precision: The Vintage Speaks
The 2014 vintage in Burgundy was a year marked by a series of climatic challenges that ultimately led to a harvest that rewarded diligent vignerons. A cool and damp August was promptly followed by a saving grace—a September that shone with warmth and welcome sunlight, allowing a focused ripening period. This finely balanced season has etched into the 2014 La Romanee a profile of intricate precision interlaced with layers of complexity.
Elegance Amidst Adversity: Exceptional Terroir Expression
The 2014 La Romanee unfolds a bouquet where dark cherries and vibrant floral notes meet the subtle humus and forest floor, marking it as an exemplar of its venerable terroir. On the palate, the wine exudes elegance amidst adversity; its fine-grained tannins and poised acidity are mirrored by lush fruit and an ethereal minerality. Equally impressive is the lingering finish that serenades the senses with grace—a quintessential trait of Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair's masterful touch.
Such fortitude and expressive detail not only define the allure of this Burgundy gem but also enhance its investable credentials. A discerning addition to any fine wine portfolio, the 2014 La Romanee beckons with its poise and age-worthy structure.
For connoisseurs seeking both an exquisite gustatory journey and a solid investment foundation, this vintage is undeniably one to contemplate. The harmony encapsulated in each bottle is a testament to both the unpredictable whimsy of Mother Nature and the unyielding resolve of man's quest for vinous perfection.

Scores and tasting notes
The 2014 La Romanée Grand Cru has a crisp and precise nose with black cherries, bergamot and blackberry with fine delineation, then upon further investigation notes of orange sorbet that I observed out of barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation, crisp acidity, a touch of salinity towards the finish. It has firmed up a little in bottle but there is outstanding intensity and superb length, retaining that "tantalizingly poised finish" (to quote myself). This is a brilliant La Romanée that might have the temerity to challenge the succeeding vintage. Tasted November 2016.
