Guillaume Tardy likes his 2016s a lot, comparing them to 2010 but with more body. He farms 5.5 hectares across five appellations (Fixin, Chambolle-Musigny, Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne-Romanee (Cote de Nuits) and Gevrey-Chambertin) dedicated solely to red wine. They are produced with minimum intervention, and oak usage ranging from 20% to 70% new. There is a tangible rise in quality since Guillaume took over, producing flashy and dense wines of excellent purity and depth.
Domaine Jean Tardy & Fils, Fixin La Place, Burgundy, France 2016
Fine and lively with ripe red cherry fruit, a delicate core of minerality and superb freshness. Worth considering for your cellar, especially in a vintage such as 2016.

Domaine Jean Tardy & Fils, Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits, Burgundy, France 2016
Compared to their Fixin La Place, there is more structure and volume here. The style is similar but this wine has more mineral depth.

Domaine Jean Tardy & Fils, Chambolle-Musigny Les Athets, Burgundy, France 2016
Surprisingly dense, energetic and rich for a Chambolle, lots of ripe red berries, spice, red plum and pomegranate with lively earthy minerals. The palate is concentrated but fresh, with a lovely aftertaste.

Domaine Jean Tardy & Fils, Vosne-Romanée Vigneux, Burgundy, France 2016
Only seven barrels produced, worth seeking out.
The elegance of Vosne through and through. Vibrant and fresh with red and dark cherries delicately supported by spicy oak, faint herbal notes and aromas of freshly turned earth. To me, the wines of Vosne-Romanée are Guillaume's finest, and for such a young wine there is great proportion here.

Domaine Jean Tardy & Fils, Nuits-St-Georges Au Bas de Combe, Burgundy, France 2016
Powerful elegance, a mix of dark and red berry fruit rounded by oak with allspice, pomegranate and redcurrants. Rich and muscular, with great persistence and depth.

Domaine Jean Tardy & Fils, Gevrey-Chambertin Champerrier, Burgundy, France 2016
Mostly dark cherry fruit with red fruit in the background, well harmonised with delicate mineral spiciness. Delicious savoury ending.

Domaine Jean Tardy & Fils, Échezeaux Les Treux Grand Cru, Burgundy, France 2016
Produced from a 0.33 hectare plot of vines that are 80+ years old.
Exciting! Blends incredible power and elegance, first delivering aromas such as redcurrant, pomegranate, and plum blended with nuanced oak spice and a subtle mineral intensity. The palate delivers immense, concentrated flavour with precision and harmony. In my opinion one of the best Échezeaux on the market today.
