2007 Duhart-Milon Rothschild from Chateau Duhart-Milon Rothschild, Pauillac, Bordeaux
Drawing from the venerable soils of Pauillac, the 2007 Duhart-Milon Rothschild presents an intriguing chapter in the legacy of Chateau Duhart-Milon Rothschild. This vintage unfolds as a testament to the resilience and savoir-faire embodied in Bordeaux's winemaking narrative.
An Ode to Elegance: The 2007 Vintage
The year 2007 was marked by climatic caprice, challenging the vinous prowess of Bordeaux's vignerons. Despite such trials, the 2007 Duhart-Milon Rothschild emerged with a dignified poise. A cooler season has bestowed upon this wine a character distinct from its more opulent brethren—a vintage whispering of finesse rather than shouting with power.
The bouquet is rich with the scent of blackcurrant and cedar, flirtatiously intertwining with subtle tobacco and graphite notes—a narrative redolent of Pauillac’s iconic terroir. On the palate, the tannins have mellowed beautifully, yet maintain a supportive backbone for the dark berry fruit that prevails. Aged under the careful custodianship of Chateau Duhart-Milon Rothschild’s cellars, this wine gently nods to those who appreciate a nuanced claret, one whose complexity is unveiled with each savored sip.
The Allure for Investors
For connoisseurs and investors alike, the 2007 Duhart-Milon Rothschild represents a compelling acquisition. This Pauillac stands as an exemplar of resilient viticulture meeting adept craftsmanship. While it may not boast the immediate gravitas of more lauded years, its elegance in adversity presents an attractive proposition for those seeking diversity within their fine wine portfolio.
As time marches forward, one finds oneself quietly captivated by this vintage's graceful ageing potential. And so it is with wines like the 2007 Duhart-Milon Rothschild that collectors are reminded—as I am with each tasting—of Bordeaux's unerring ability to surprise and delight even in less heralded years.
In sum, if your cellar craves a slice of Bordeaux history—a wine where subtlety and structure dance delicately beneath a cool vintage's sky—then the 2007 Duhart-Milon Rothschild from Chateau Duhart-Milon Rothschild must undoubtedly take its rightful place among your collection. Here lies an understated yet captivating investment bottle, suffused with Pauillac’s soulful terroir and ready to reveal its quiet nobility.

Showing better than it did from cask, this soft, generous, dark ruby/purple-tinged 2007 exhibits sweet black currant fruit intermixed with cedar, roasted herbs, and subtle smoke. Round, hedonistic, and already complex, this blend of 73.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 26.5% Merlot should drink well for 12-15 years.
Robert Parker Jr - The Wine Advocate, 26 April 2010
Tasted blind at the 2007 Bordeaux horizontal in Southwold. I have not tasted the Duhart-Milon since out of barrel, but it certainly appears to have meliorated in bottle. Here, it has a very attractive, well-defined bouquet with graphite and mint to the fore: quintessential Pauillac. The palate has good depth and rounded, firm structure, a little dry and herbaceous but that is all in synch with the rest of the wine. Smooth and polished towards the finish, although it just lacks the persistency of a great wine, but sure to improve with age (as Duhart always is.) Not a compelling wine, a bit robust perhaps, but commendable. Tasted January 2011.
