A Year of Triumph amidst Challenge
The 2012 vintage rode a climatic roller coaster, marked by a challenging cold spring that delayed flowering, followed up by a sizzling August that ensured a meticulous ripening process. Yet, it was during these trials that Château Pichon Baron demonstrated its acumen in creating a truly exquisite wine - crafting beauty from adversity.
With deliberate precision, this 2012 Pichon Baron encapsulates the resilience of its grapes. The execution in blending predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot has resulted in a harmonious depiction of power and elegance.
Sophistication in a Glass
Swirl this deep, nearly opaque nectar, and you are met with complex layers of cassis, pencil shavings, and a hint of damp earth—suggestive of its poised upbringing in the gravelly soils of Pauillac. Each sip arrives with the confidence of well-integrated tannins and a finish that echoes through the ages, recalling the coolness that eventually ceded to sun-bathed clusters in September.
As investors eye this 2012 Pichon Baron, they should be drawn not only to its current allure but also to its promising evolution over time. The intricate structure implies a steady maturation curve—one that aligns with thoughtful wine investment portfolios.
In sum, the 2012 exemplar from Château Pichon Baron exemplifies a confluence of fine winemaking with a remarkable vintage year - yielding an investable artefact that connoisseurs would be astute to safeguard within their collections. Its narrative is one of triumph; its flavor, one of unrivalled sophistication.

This wine builds on the palate with pretty currants and berries. Full body, with a tender core of fruit and a tannins structure that builds on the palate. It is precise and fresh. Creamy fruit and ripe tannins.

Tasted en primeur at the chateau. A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot picked between 1st and 17th October, the old vines picked form 8th October. It has a strict, quite conservative bouquet that is very focused: sous-bois, graphite and just a touch of mint. The palate is medium-bodied with a grainy entry. There is a good edginess here lent by the citric acidity with a very composed, harmonious finish that lingers nicely in the mouth. Very fine
Neal Martin - Wine Journal May 2013
A strong effort from this Pauillac chateau, most of the old vine Cabernet Sauvignon from their parcels near Latour made it into the 2012 Pichon Longueville Baron's final blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot. A dense purple color is accompanied by an attractive bouquet of incense, cassis, cedar and toasty oak. It is medium to full-bodied as well as bigger, richer and brawnier than most Medoc 2012s. Noticeable tannin in the finish suggests 3-4 years of cellaring is warranted. Drink it over the following two decades.
