2007 La Conseillante from Chateau La Conseillante, Pomerol, Bordeaux

A vintage emerges every so often that captivates the purists' hearts. The 2007 La Conseillante from Chateau La Conseillante is such a bottle, resonating with the distinctiveness of its birth year. Beneath the surface of a Bordeaux vintage renowned for its challenges, lies a creation to which I have witnessed wine investors inclined with particular affection.

The Artistry of Adaptation Under Duress

While 2007 in Pomerol will not be etched as a year of ease, Chateau La Conseillante's capacity to extract elegance from adversity shines through. A dappled year climatically, it brought out the deft touch and expertise of the vintners. The clay-laden terroir of Pomerol provided natural drainage, a boon during the unsettled weather patterns and an asset that Chateau La Conseillante utilised to their advantage. The resulting wine proffers a profile rife with poise and subtlety.

An Exposition of Terroir and Time

The alchemy at play within the 2007 La Conseillante astonishes. It possesses an aromatic complexity hinting at truffles interwoven with ripe dark berries—a quintessential trait marking the grace of maturing Pomerol. On the palate, one finds the finesse expected from this storied chateaux: silk-like tannins carrying flavours of plums and a hint of chocolate, underpinned by an earthy structure likely to ascend with further cellar aging.

Investment-minded connoisseurs will appreciate the thoughtful balance displayed by this vintage. It stands as proof that in even less exalted years, illustrious winemakers proffer quite collectable editions—an attribute not lost on those seeking diversity in their fine wine portfolios.

The 2007 La Conseillante reflects the resilient spirit of Pomerol’s terroir and Chateau La Conseillante’s winemaking wisdom. As an emblematic interpretation born out of challenging conditions, it exemplifies investment viability combined with tantalising maturation potential—a combination requiring recognition upon any esteemed investor's palate as well as their portfolio.

Tasted at BI Wine & Spirits' 10-Years-On tasting, the 2007 La Conseillante has a very pretty bouquet with tarry black cherry fruit, black truffle and incense. I appreciate the focus and freshness on this Pomerol. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a keen line of acidity, very focused with plenty of freshness and tension on the finish. Maybe the best bottle of this I have encountered, this La Conseillante is well worth hunting down. Tasted February 2017.
