Cherishing Complexity and Balance

The 2001 Pomerol vintage commands attention with its ripe core of fruit enveloped by an intricate melange of truffle, leather and cigar box aromas. The palate is simultaneously rich and delineated, showcasing merlot's plush velvet clad in cabernet franc's aristocratic lace; a dualism that speaks volumes of this particular year's ability to unite concentration with finesse.

Two decades into its journey, this vintage has unfurled gracefully, humbling those who might have underestimated its longevity. Its current profile strikes a resonant chord with investors and enthusiasts who value maturity in their Bordeaux—offering complexity that continues to evolve, enhancing both collection and glass.

In sum, the 2001 L'Evangile from Chateau L'Evangile merits discernment – it encapsulates exception and experience in every decanter — inviting those who wish to deepen their acquaintance with Pomerol's profound character. This particular vintage is one for contemplation; it not only echoes the resilience and elegance inherent to its birthplace but also symbolises the astuteness of judicious wine investment.

Tasted at the Dynasty restaurant in Hong Kong. Served from a magnum, the 2001 l'Evangile is a beautiful wine. It has a sensual bouquet with black fruits, black truffle, a fleeting glimpse of an exotic scent such as almond and coconut that is soon replaced by earthier aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine balance, supple and succulent in the mouth with a smooth, velvety texture, the opulent finish belying the structure underneath. The finish is decorated with black truffle and a touch of liquorice, although I would have liked a little more length here. Tasted November 2011.

While not up to the quality level of the stratospheric 2000, the deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 l'Evangile is a beauty. Revealing notes of beef blood, black fruits, and white flowers, it is medium-bodied and lush with sweet tannin, a pliant, opulent texture, and a long, rich finish revealing hints of forest floor, truffles, and licorice. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2017.
