By Chateau Trotanoy
2000 Trotanoy from Chateau Trotanoy, Pomerol, Bordeaux
As I approach my tasting notes on the distinguished 2000 Trotanoy from Chateau Trotanoy, one is immediately transported back to a vintage that was exceptionally promising across Bordeaux. It was a year of both abundant yield and exquisitely high quality, etched into the annals of Pomerol with a particularly vibrant intensity.
A Millennial Marvel: Investing in History
The turn of the new millennium was met with fervent anticipation in the wine world - and rightfully so, as the 2000 vintage emerged, imbued with both depth and power. The 2000 Trotanoy embodies this exemplary standard. A wise investment for any connoisseur or collector, it sits as one of the crown jewels in Pomerol's regal offerings.
Season’s Greetings: An Exceptional Vintage Defined
2000 was blessed with optimal weather conditions, allowing for uniform ripening and sound grapes. The particular climatic nuances of this year lent the 2000 Trotanoy an additional layer of complexity; it is a tapestry woven with threads of both richness and elegance. Exhibiting an alluring nose of black cherries and plums accompanied by earthier undertones of truffle and licorice, its olfactory allure is spellbinding. On the palate, one finds a seamless blend of ripe fruit and structured tannins, indicative of an excellent ageing potential.
This vintage articulates the terroir of Pomerol with profound grace. It exemplifies how minute variations in climate can signal prodigious shifts in character; here is an expression not just of grape but also of time and place – an indelible mark of 2000's generous skies.
Investment Perspective: The Lingering Appeal of Rarity
In line with its coveted status amongst investors, the 2000 Trotanoy represents more than a tantalising indulgence; it stands as a robust pillar in any portfolio curated with longevity in mind. As time marches on and supplies dwindle, its rarity only escalates its allure – a magnifying glass through which its value is likely to appreciate.
The power and finesse emblematic of this vintage are infrequently paralleled and serve to signify the sort of vinous treasure that captures hearts and minds whilst promising continued desirability for years to come.
In summation, engaging not just one’s senses but also prescient financial acumen, the 2000 Trotanoy from Chateau Trotanoy represents a symphony very much still in crescendo – resplendent now, yet undeniably poised for future ovations in cellars and markets alike.

This starts off with fabulous aromas of milk chocolate, plums and subtle spices. Full bodied, with super silky tannins and a long, long finish. Tight but just starting to open up. I'm loving the fresh acidity at the end. Needs another five to six years bottle age. Pull the cork in 2016.

Tasted at the Trotanoy vertical in Hong Kong, the 2000 Trotanoy seems to be improving with age. It has an outstanding bouquet with far more fruit intensity than I anticipated: mulberry, blackberry, briary, broom and white pepper all mingling together with superb delineation. The palate displays exquisite balance, fresh and focused with a clean and precise finish that is only just beginning to show what it can do. Like so many millennial Bordeaux it has matured at its own pace, however, on this showing it seems determined to reward those with the greatest patience. Tasted November 2016.

This beautiful wine turned out slightly better than I had predicted seven years ago. Abundant sweet aromas of black cherries, damp earth, forest floor, and cocoa are both ripe and enticing. The wine is full-bodied, dense, and just beginning to shed its tannins. Generous and opulent, it is beginning to enter its plateau of full maturity, where it should remain for another 15-20 years.

A very deep, almost opaque garnet colour. A very intense nose of blackberry, plum, a touch of hoi sin and a touch of liquorice. Broody and backward but it will reward those with patience to cellar. The palate is full-bodied, quite tannic and suffused with puissance. Masculine, a touch of tobacco and roasted herbs on the back palate from the Cabernet Franc. Intense, quite conservative and introverted at the moment. Great length. A superb Trotanoy, but one presently closing down. Drink 2015-2035. Tasted May 2007.
