2007 Trotanoy

By Chateau Trotanoy

2007 Trotanoy from Chateau Trotanoy, Pomerol, Bordeaux

The 2007 vintage in Pomerol was a challenge that Chateau Trotanoy met with the grace and aplomb one has come to expect from this renowned estate. Nestled in one of Bordeaux's most illustrious appellations, the 2007 Trotanoy from Chateau Trotanoy is emblematic of the resilience and adaptability of this fine terroir.

Precocious Elegance: The 2007 Enigma

The growing season of 2007 presented vignerons across Bordeaux with a gamut of meteorological tests, from a mild winter and early bud break to an unseasonably cool August. The climatic ballet concluded with a saving grace – a sunny September granting ripeness to the carefully nurtured grapes. It is this climatic dance that bestowed the 2007 vintage its unique signature. The wines produced channel finesse rather than power, allowing for nuances often eclipsed in more opulent years to take centre stage.

A Connoisseur's Investment: The 2007 Trotanoy Vitality

The 2007 Trotanoy reveals a compelling narrative through its bouquet alone: a tapestry woven with hints of ripe red berries, underpinned by earthy undertones and truffles - an echo of the classic Pomerol profile. On the palate, one finds a balance rarely achieved in such mercurial conditions – a poised integration of fruit and tannins amidst a modest yet unmistakable structure. More accessible now than many peers might suggest, yet promising further maturation for the patient investor.

For the astute collector and investor alike, the enduring appeal of the 2007 Trotanoy is unmistakable. Its journey through the vicissitudes of 2007 has accentuated its essence rather than diminished it. Those seeking to diversify their portfolios would do well to consider the immutable allure that such a vintage carries. Not merely enduring as an accompaniment to refined palates but standing as a testament to the savoir-faire at Chateau Trotanoy.

Wine Investment Merit: Pomerol's Distinctive 2007 Ambassador

The persistence and vigilance demanded by the 2007 growing season have been handsomely rewarded in this wine's development – revealing both the capabilities of the terroir and the artistry of Chateau Trotanoy’s winemaking team. This rendition underscores my belief that fine wines are not created solely by sun-soaked paradisiacal years but also by those years which put both land and hand to test; herein lies the true measure of mastery.

A sojourn with the articulate 2007 Trotanoy from Chateau Trotanoy affirms its credentials as both a consummate pleasure for oenophiles and a discerning addition to any wine investment portfolio. It stands out as one of Pomerol’s most cerebral vintages – offering whispers of finesse that demand not only to be heard but savoured over life’s symphony.

Tasted at Corney & Barrow's Pomerol dinner. The 2007 is of course, very closed on the nose with broody dark blackberry, cedar, sous-bois and a touch of graphite. Just hint of fireside hearth in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a grainy texture on the entry, good acidity with an almost citric edge, masculine and structured towards the finish. Good potential here, but it needs 5-8 years to lose its infant temper. Tasted April 2011.

Revealing surprising density for a 2007, this elegant, dark plum/ruby-colored Pomerol exhibits sweet notes of iron, black currants, cherries, truffles, and herbs. Drink this deep, full-bodied, muscular offering over the next 12-15 years. I would not be surprised to see it put on weight and merit an outstanding score with a few more years in the bottle.
