2014 Calon-Segur from Chateau Calon-Segur, St-Estephe, Bordeaux
The year 2014 in the storied terroir of Chateau Calon-Segur is one to be remembered for its stark contrast to the preceding vintages. It was a year that found its redemption in an Indian summer that graced the vineyards of St-Estephe, allowing the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot to express their full potential. The 2014 Calon-Segur stands as a testament to the resilience of nature and the alchemy of winemaking that defines this noble chateau.
Resilience and Elegance: A Vintage of Triumph
The 2014 Calon-Segur marries climatic tenacity with vinous elegance, showcasing how a challenging year in Bordeaux can still culminate in a wine with remarkable poise. Investors looking for a wine that exemplifies the harmony between nature and human endeavour will find solace in this offering from Chateau Calon-Segur. In their cellars, the 2014 vintage emerges as a triumph of patient endurance over adversity.
Architects of Flavour: Crafting Balance from Chaos
Despite the capricious start to the growing season, the 2014 vintage blooms with bold tannins that are ennobled by a dark-fruit profile and subtle earthy undertones. The wine showcases notes of blackcurrant, hints of tobacco, and finely integrated oak—garnered through restrained élevage practices—that speak to adept craftsmanship.
Savvy collectors and connoisseurs will recognise in the 2014 Calon-Segur an opportunity for investment with maturation potential, as its structure promises longevity and developing complexity over time. Indeed, the 2014 vintage from Chateau Calon-Segur is more than a mere survivor of circumstances; it is a beacon of resilience that invites contemplation and appreciation for the narrative it presents within each decanted glass.
In conclusion, for those seeking a Bordeaux with a story of resurgence and refined distinction, the 2014 Calon-Segur embodies these attributes entirely. It grants astute investors not just a wine for their portfolio but also a chapter of Bordeaux's chronicles—a sip that whispers both history and promise.

The 2014 Calon Ségur has a much more reticent bouquet than either the 2014 Montrose or Cos d'Estournel. There is blackberry here, a hint of cassis and violets, fine purity but bolshie and withdrawn at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe tannin, more red fruit than the Montrose with a smooth, quite silky Merlot-like, graphite finish. Tasted on two occasions in Bordeaux, the second bottle exuded more panache and joie-de-vivre, coming across a little more spicy with a longer aftertaste.
