2007 Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru from Domaine Armand Rousseau, Burgundy

As we cast our gaze upon the remarkable vinous landscape of Burgundy, the 2007 Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru from Domaine Armand Rousseau staunchly stands out as a paragon of elegance. A wine that, even within the stellar tapestry woven by this esteemed producer, is particularly deserving of a profound contemplation for its remarkable poise and complexity borne of that vintage’s unique character.

Distinction in a Bottle: The 2007 Vintage Signature

The year 2007 was arguably as capricious as Burgundy’s temperament itself, with early warmth promising much but leading to hydric stress and an uneven ripening. It was the meticulous care and unerring selection in the vineyard and cellar under Domaine Armand Rousseau that sculpted such raw potential into a distinguished libation. Their intimate understanding of the fickle climate and unyielding attention to detail have unveiled a Grand Cru that epitomises the term 'vin d'émotion'.

A Triumph Over Climatic Adversity

The nuanced bouquet of this Grand Cru captivates first with a perfumed aria of wild strawberries and delicate violets, hinting at the gentle warmth of the vintage’s sporadic sunny days. On the palate, it delivers a symphony where each note resonates; an ensemble of vital red fruit characteristics poised against an earthy basso continuo punctuated by a touch of spice – a direct reflection of Clos-de-Beze’s celebrated terroir enriched by 2007’s peculiar dance of the elements.

The power and structure here are free from ostentation, wrapped instead in finesse – suggestive of Rousseau's virtuosic hand. Nowhere does the bracing acidity overwhelm; it lifts, balances, and beckons another sip. Indeed, like many in its lineage, this Grand Cru reveals its gravitas over time; but unlike some of its brethren, it extends an accessible invitation sooner – due in no small part to the benevolence of its birth year.

In conclusion, the 2007 Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru from Domaine Armand Rousseau stands as a testament to expert craftsmanship flourishing within the constraints imposed by Mother Nature. As such, it is one to be considered most seriously by those who invest not just financially but emotionally in their wines – an acquisition promising enrichment both for the cellar and for occasions suffused with discernment and appreciation.

The 2007 Chambertin Clos-de-Beze Grand Cru is drinking beautifully at the moment. It has a pixilated bouquet that is utterly entrancing – red currant, bergamot, hints of pomegranate seeds and an underlying mineralite that is divine. The palate is perfectly balanced with extremely fine tannins. There is something regal and self-assured about this Clos-de-Beze, with a sense of weightlessness in the mouth that is bewitching. This both satisfies the senses and flirts with profundity. Dare I suggest this is too exquisite to cellar? Damn – I’ve just gone and done it. Drink now-2020.
