2005 Meursault Goutte d'Or from Domaine des Comtes Lafon, Burgundy
Delving into the 2005 Meursault Goutte d'Or from Domaine des Comtes Lafon is akin to embarking on an enchanting journey through time to a vintage that remains etched in the annals of Burgundy history. My own intimate relationship with Burgundy's vintages leads me to contemplate each wine's story, focusing on its singular expression of time and terroir.
Unique Vintage Character: A Harmonious Symphony
Bearing witness to the exceptional balance between opulence and precision, the 2005 vintage from this storied estate captures a particular alchemy. It was a year that bestowed a generous summer sans overbearance, thereby crafting wines that sought harmony over heft – a characteristic allowing sophisticated palates to discern its cellaring potential as a prudent wine investment.
The wine's golden hue sets the stage for an olfactory ballet of toasted hazelnuts, ripe peaches, and a whisper of honeysuckle – paving the way for an enduring romance upon one's first sip. Amidst the tapestry of Meursault's characteristic minerality, one discovers undertones of vanilla and buttered brioche that lend credence to the esteemed craftsmanship at Domaine des Comtes Lafon.
Investment-worthy Elegance
In the sphere of fine wine investment, where provenance is parallel in importance to quality, it must be noted that such wines as the 2005 Meursault Goutte d'Or offer stability. The tenacious yet supple structure signals not just an outstanding drinking experience but also an asset that can flourish within a connoisseur’s portfolio.
While years will pass, and newer vintages will rise to claim their place within collector’s cellars, it is the 2005 Meursault Goutte d'Or from Domaine des Comtes Lafon that will continually evoke memories of a captivating Beaujolais summer – a crowning achievement for both Domaine des Comtes Lafon and Burgundy alike.
In confluence with an insightful investment decision, this vintage upholds its repute by unfurling with grace under thoughtful enophiles' appreciation. As each bottle decants, so does its promise of burgeoning value, rendering it a poise selection for investors seeking finesse and fiscal reward.

The 2005 Puligny-Montrachet Enseignieres takes the aromatic complexity and delineation of the 2004 and ramps it up a few notches: here stunning mineralite and tension reminiscent of the 2005 Corton-Charlemagne. The palate is precise on the entry with pitch-perfect acidity, linear at first but, then fanning out beautifully toward the long and tender finish. This represents one of the finest vintages I have tasted from this vineyard. Tasted November 2013. Here is another raft of wines from the most feted and yet still mysterious Cote de Beaune growers. Jean-Francois Coche’s reds are more elusive than his whites, but they can be astonishing. Importer: Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant, Berkeley, CA; tel. (510) 524-1524
